Master Jules Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Again I say.....belt hold up pants...get on mat and train.....period. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
aefibird Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 get on mat and train..... That's the best advice to give. As Mr Miyagi say... "karate here" (points to head) "karate here" (points to heart) "karate no here" (points to belt) "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." Master Jules Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Thank you Sempai.....funny you would quote Mr Miyagi from the Karate kid movies......thats the style that I teach......Goju Ryu. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Coco Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 Is the miyagi in the karate kid movies supposed to be the founder of goju ryu? Shito Ryu (3rd kyu) RETIRED - 2002-2003Now studying BJJ(2006)
Master Jules Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Yes.....however, Miyagi died in 1953......there is a scene where they are on a beach performing kata.....very poorly I might add....that kata is seyunchin, but they are just repeating one segment of it over and over again.......also, in the fight scene where "daniel -san" is up on one leg, and does the jump kick to win, he is actually in the white crane stance (again, very poorly done).....Goju Ryu decsends from White Crane. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
WapCaplet Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 also, in the fight scene where "daniel -san" is up on one leg, and does the jump kick to win, he is actually in the white crane stance (again, very poorly done).....Goju Ryu decsends from White Crane. I heard somewhere that the "crane kick" used in the Karate Kid movie was actually created specifically for the movie and was not derived from any actual karate move or stance. I could be wrong, or my source could be wrong, but I was fairly certain that at the time, that move was not a legitmate karate move because it had no practical application. I also heard from the same source (I think it might have been a special feature on the DVD, but I'll have to double check) that the move was created specifically to look cool and make for a climactic ending. Wap "Fighting fighting. Same Same""But you know karate!""Someone always know more..."
47MartialMan Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I love how these threads start on one topic and merge into another.... Interesting things arise...
Master Jules Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Its part of the white crane system ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
47MartialMan Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 also, in the fight scene where "daniel -san" is up on one leg, and does the jump kick to win, he is actually in the white crane stance (again, very poorly done).....Goju Ryu decsends from White Crane. Wap We ahve been doing that kick LONG before KK. In fact, there is a multiple array of methods to do it.
Master Jules Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 The stance is correct, but again, very poorly done in the movie......the kick is a simple jump kick..... ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
