taezee
alot of the "poor showing" taekwondo in the olymipics is due to a related subject here "judges"and the politics involved in getting members together i know personally at least ten martial artist who should have been on that team...who are taekwondos true top performers real fighters and not tag and hold specialist..but today its who you know and who your master is that determines you being on any national or international team..but as for kickboxing id have to say the same there are some fights that are impresive but for the most part what i have seen in person or on espn is amature boxers throwing terrible kick..kicks so awful i doubt most of them had ever had one karate lesson much less be called a martial artist Javier l Rosario instructor taekwondo/hapkidounder master Atef s Himaya"whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your *"
TOMMY BEE
There are many people in the kickboxing industry trying to get kickboxing into the Olympics. The WPKA is trying to get Kickboxing into the 2004 Olympics as Greece willl host them. They have A very Sucessful World championship that has fighters in all styles from all over the world and the next one is in May of 2002. To say that most kickboxers don't know how to kick is laughable but that is OK if you have not experienced the ring yourself it is easy to judge something that you are not participating in. I See that you are from long Island as we have some of the most popular Kickboxing shows in the U.S. and the World held here ,So you should go to some events and see how they are. If you think you are better than the kickboxers or have students that would like to prticipate we are alawys looking for new fighters and schools to have as part of our shows.Ring Of Fire Kickboxing , We have all rules styles on our shows. This is not to insult or challenge you but it is odd how someone from Long Island NY has such negative things to say about the fighters in sport and I have never heard of you. I agree that sometimes they don't show the best fighters on Tv but believe me there are many great fighters right in your own comunity never mind the rest of the World. We are producing shows for Tv now and hope to showcase some of the best talent from all over the World in the Future. Iron Arahat
The problem with Kickboxing in the Olympics would be who's rules? American? Thai? Chinese? International? Change the rules you change the game. Who would hold the qualification bouts for a country? Who would be the regulating body? Too many questions to be answered, too much $$$ at stake. I thnk it would end up being a farce. ramcalgary
Never said it would be easy. Get the major ametuer sanctioning bodies to get together and agree on the basic rules. Perhaps run several promotions using different rules and ask the people in attendance which bouts they prefer. Kickboxing has been shooting itself in the foot since it began by the alphabet boys always one upping each other. Maybe the Olympics are the competition that could finally bring them together. Maybe the promotoers could make suggestions or even heaven forbid the athletes could have a say in the rules and regulations. kicker
well it depends some people like watching TKD but some don't and would preper another martial arts that already isn't in there it would have to be votes by those who go there or something if they wanted to take that idea as something interesting when you do your best it`s going to show. Prodigy-Child
kickboxing should be in the olympics. it would be awesome if it was......and if they do get to the olympics it should fall under american rules (fists and kicks only,,,,, and all kicks above the waist) You can boo me if you want, You know I'm right!-Chris Rock
TOMMY BEE
I agree that they should ave all 4 styles of Kickboxing in the Olympics ,Even have light contact and semi contact so that all stand up fighting is represented. They have all of these styles except for Sanshou in the WPKA World Championships in Greece and it is very sucessful. tommybeeatafc@yahoo.comhttps://www.ringoffirekickboxing.com
ramcalgary
:down:be realistic tommy is going to be hard enough to get one style into the Olys .As far as kicks above the waist only the PKA tried that in the early 80s and look where it is now.......history.
