krunchyfrogg
(oops, posted this in the karate forum, while it's probably more suited to this forum) I'll be leaving for Hawai'i in a week for my honeymoon, and somebody bought me a karate lesson through my online registry! I'd like to take this chance to take a class in Kauai'i, because that's where I'll have the most free time, but a school suggestion in Maui would be welcome as well. I'm most interested in taking a class in some style unique or native to the Hawai'ian islands. Any and all help is welcome. Thanks in advance! Pacificshore
Hey kf: I vacation on Kauai every other year or so, and the last time I was there, I saw a sign for a karate place right near the airport I believe. It may also be a Kajukenbo school or Kenpo...can't truely remember off hand. When you get there, I'd definitely hit the yellow pages, or ask some of the locals. Another suggestion I have, I'll PM you. Congrats on your wedding by the way Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
Rotten Head Fok
Ok, forget the lesson, focus on the Honeymoon! You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! The martial arts are easy to learn, but difficult to correct.

Shorinryu Sensei
Ok, forget the lesson, focus on the Honeymoon! I'll second that motion! lol Just a quick story. I got married back in 1978, just 2 months after getting my Shodan. We couldn't afford a honeymoon as exotic or nice as Hawaii, but went to Spokane, Washington instead (it's fairly close to here). When we checked into our hotel, there was a karate school right across the street from us, and the 2nd evening I went over there to watch for a few minutes and ended up taking a two hour class. This is while my wife was sitting in our motel room and I was just supposed to pop over and watch the class "for a few minutes". Needless to say, I didn't have a good reception when I got back to the motel. A word of advice. Concentrate on making your new bride happy and spending the time with her instead of working out. Unless of course, she's going to go with you and try a class? If it's just you..pass on it bud. The grief and resentment aren't worth the hour or two of enjoyment on your part, because she'll NEVER let you forget it! Women are funny that way. aefibird
Women are funny that way. Yes, we are, aren't we... But I agree. If the MA lesson is just for you and not for yout bride too, then I'd strongly suggest that you pass. It is your honeymoon after all... "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." A dojo near there would be ideal.Ok, forget the lesson, focus on the Honeymoon!... A word of advice. Concentrate on making your new bride happy and spending the time with her instead of working out. Thanks for the advice, but she's scheduled to take a tennis lesson herself at the same time. We both put these things on our registry, and they've been bought for us. It's something that is totally cool between us (and was her idea, actually). I'd most like a school teaching either kajukenbo or lua, styles native to Hawai'i.
