Sho-ju Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Anyone study white crane, what are the forms like?
Master Jules Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Goju Ryu has its lineage in the White Crane system......If you watch the Hakutsuru (White Crane) form.....it looks like several of the Goju katas put together, and is very long. ~Master Jules ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Sho-ju Posted August 28, 2004 Author Posted August 28, 2004 The deeper I go into shorin style, I find that hakutsuru is also the found within the system. In fact many kata are linked to kung fu...bassai to leopard, hangetsu is based on the 8 gates, gankaku and rohai are basic crane forms. Do you have video of that goju kata?
dinesh Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 shorin style has hangetsu? You mean Chinto don't you? Crane techniques are all over the shorin forms, i have especially seen them in the matsumura lineage..... But there is a Hakutsuru kata though, seen peice of a tape, but never seen the entire thing....
Shorin Ryuu Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I only know Hakutsuru Sho, as the Hakutsuru kata are not in Kobayashi Shorin Ryu (not my branch, anyway). Regardless, you can see influences in the other kata though. Martial Arts Blog:http://bujutsublogger.blogspot.com/
Master Jules Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I have an old black and white video of the Hakutsuru kata being performed by one of Toguchi's students in 1973....Toguchi was a top student of Miyagi....... for those who dont know the names....Miyagi was the founder of GoJu Ryu. In any case....the form is very long, but flawlessly performed and amazing to watch. ~Master Jules ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
47MartialMan Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 A lot of Okinawan-Te are influenced from He (Crane) stemming from Fujian (Fukien) Province, China.
Master Jules Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Looks like you have quite an interesting background, MM47......Ive studied many different things over the years as well.....It really is quite fascinating to see the differences and similarities between various arts isnt it ?...... ~Master Jules ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
47MartialMan Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Master Jules: Being born in the late 50's had the advantages of finding good Masters. Although half I've known are now deceased. This is by no means to state that there aren't any more good Masters. I would not mind seeking those others as well.
Master Jules Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 You got me by a few years...'66.....I started as a kid in kyokushin back in 73....reached brown and my folks pulled me out.....to much trouble as a kid with my temper, and I was getting in trouble at school....I dabbled on my own in secret so my folks wouldnt know.....did a lot of grappling for a while....then I found Goju ryu about 14 years ago and loved the grappling aspect of the "in close" fighting style.....I also started with JuJitsu about 12 years ago, and trained some judo and aikido on the side......but I fell in love with edged weapons, aside from the empty hand. Along the way, Ive met and trained with Peter Urban, Wally Jay, George Dillman, Remy Presas, students of Toguchi and Shinjo of Goju Ryu......Its simply amazing how much there is to learn.....I only wish I had endless lifetimes. ~Jules ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
