Rich_2k3 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Would you use a spinning backfist in a "real" fight? I really seem to like this technique, its probably the flashiest punch u can do, but its still extreamly powerful and does not compromise on practicality. I'm really trying to master this technique at the mo. Do u think its a practical technique? "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee
Rich67 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I used it in a real fight. It works and is powerful, despite the "flashiness" of it. It works better with someone who has no MA knowledge, so you'll have to make that determination once the fight starts. But it's fast and powerful. Mixed Martial Artist
delta1 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Fast, powerful, and deceptive. I'd use it. Flashy? Depends on your definition of flashy, I guess. But it is undeniably effective. Good tool to have in your arsenal. Freedom isn't free!
47MartialMan Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Better than a spinning kick in that situation
Rich_2k3 Posted August 28, 2004 Author Posted August 28, 2004 I think the spinning backfist would be the only spinning technique i'd use in a real fight. "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee
Drunken Monkey Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 .....hmm, is your spinning back fist based on spinning very quickly for momentum or spinning (from step) to gain position? hey delta, remember that low, kneeling type stance we were talking about? do you guys 'turn/spin' to a backfist type move (by rotating/'undoing' the stance)? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
delta1 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 ... is your spinning back fist based on spinning very quickly for momentum or spinning (from step) to gain position? Both.hey delta, remember that low, kneeling type stance we were talking about? do you guys 'turn/spin' to a backfist type move (by rotating/'undoing' the stance)? Yes. In fact, you can backfist both rotating into and out of a twist stance. And if necessary, you can backfist while steping into or out of a twist. You can use the twist to buckle his knee while you backfist, giving a simultaneouse high-low attack. Pretty versatile. Freedom isn't free!
Drunken Monkey Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 ....well, i'm not that comfortable rotating into that stance so i normally advance/step into it, then rotate out of it with punch, kick or whatever i need.... and well, i asked originally cos i see too many people (or do i mean kid wannabes?) do it differently (in my books, 'badly') and was just wondering if it was only cos my chinese base teaches it differently. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
47MartialMan Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 I believe it depends on the position of the oponent and the surrounding area. The opponent coming in close and fast, or is already in close position. Also, like if you are out in the open or in a place where there are obsticles like tables and chairs, etc.
Rich_2k3 Posted August 29, 2004 Author Posted August 29, 2004 Basically I side step with my front left leg passed my right and then twist in my stance and swing my right leg round and back to its position, at the same time I twist my upper body look over my shoulder at the target and then whip my backfist out and use the momentum to bring it back, this is all one motion. I dont know if thats very clear. "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee
