Hi I am relatively new to the martial arts and I am having real bother finding a teacher where i live. I am therefore looking into some video alternatives for the meanwhile. So i was wondering if anyone can help me by recommending any good video/book stick fighting techniques that i can buy. The videos/books must be able to be delivered to the u.k oh and must be english dubbed or subtitled, thanks for anyones time that reads or answers this:).

One since your new starting with books and or videos are not the best way to go. But if you can't find a teacher look into the San Soo stuff. And if your into sticks you want escrima, i don't know who's vidoes are the best though

Is escrima the filipino martial art using 2 sticks? I have seen some of that and it is very fast and looks good. No im meaning like using a bo i would think or the just smaller one. I have found plenty of videos/vcd's but the only thing is they are all in chinese:( i do plan to learn some chinese but atm i dont have a clue. Also i would love to learn from a master or someone suitable but unfortunatly there is no one near me at all i live in Scotland and although martial arts are popular they just dont seem to be around my area:P.

Escrima fighters learn beginning with 2 sticks, then 1 stick and 1 knife, then 2 knives.

The "stick" fighting is usually mixed with blade arts. In the filipinno martial arts, the stick represents a blade. However, the concepts of the sticks also apply to ALL weapons (except firearms). Training in Kali, I am adept to use anything I can hold as a weapon. I highly suggest training in Kali if you want to become and expert in weapondry.

I would not even try learning the basics by a book or video. When starting off you need an instructor to help show you the techniques and make the proper corrections. Videos and Books can be of use, but only after you have been under instruction for some time. So if I was you I would stay motivated to learn and train and start searching very hard for a school to train at. Trying to learn from books and videos without first being very well trained will just build bad habits. I'm sure alot of people would agree that when starting off we think we have it down and the next thing you know your instructor is there making corrections. Then you think to yourself WOW I did not even have a clue I was doing that wrong. This is why it is very important to have a good instructor to help show you how to properly exucute the moves.

A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!
