gweilo Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 I've been looking for a new school and a new style. I've bee looking into a school that teaches Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen. I've studied a chinese art (Hun Gar Gung Fu for a short time when I was younger) and a korean stlye (Tae Kwon Do -for several years). I'm looking for something a bit more well rounded and softer (gentler on the joints). Anyway, does any one have any info on Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen? The school seems really nice and the style has some very interesting roots as I understand them. My only hesitations are, I know almost nothing about the style (beyond a bit of its history), and the school is a bit expensive for me. I found one post that mentioned some weird ritual things that go on, and another post that mentioned falling outs among the highest ranked members... Thanks for any info! -dan

Rotten Head Fok Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Welcome to Karate Forums ! I have never heard of PTT until you wrote it and the site Mu Ryuk posted. All I can suggest as with anything you (we) desire, research, ask questions, and listen to your gut. Good luck! You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! The martial arts are easy to learn, but difficult to correct.

monjet Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 For a year, I have been a student of Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen. I love it. I also think the instructors and students are great people. It's been a lot of fun. Where are you looking to study? There are schools around the nation. Maybe call someone at the school nearest to you and talk to them.
CapitalKarate Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 what ecaxtly is it? Joshua Brehm-When you're not practicing remember this; someone, somewhere, is practicing, and when you meet them, they will beat you.
monjet Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 It is an Indonesian fighting art (combines elements of Chun Fa and Poekoelan). It uses 4 animals (tiger, monkey, snake, and crane) as the basis for many moves and strikes. There are several websites that describe the art better than I can. the main website is https://www.poekoelan.com.
Hudson Posted September 3, 2004 Posted September 3, 2004 Wow... thats a mouthful. 4 animals huh? My style has 43.5! Anyway... yeah, just check out the place. Sounds pretty cool. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
