Rotten Head Fok Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 I don't think it is, I've heard of people wanting to become personal body guards going to this type of training. But why not call them, write them and do some really good research, are you thinking about going ? You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! The martial arts are easy to learn, but difficult to correct.
Drunken Monkey Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 ....that's the world famous 'train at the shaolin temple' thing. it is good hard training but don't confuse it with any romantic image you have of temple training. like i keep saying, it is open to anyone who can fork out the cash so it isn't really anything special. also, yes. in china, a lot of people use the three years as a base for bodyguard work. it is expensive but at the same time, a worthwhile investment. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Benjamin1981 Posted August 26, 2004 Author Posted August 26, 2004 Yeah, I might be going to Iraq this winter and the money I save while I'm gone would be well spent by some of this training. I'd like to be able to do hard qi gong one day... -Benjamin
Rotten Head Fok Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Are you in a branch of service Benjamin ? You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! Oni Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 I would love to do this type of training at least 3 years I wouldn't do it straight off thoguh I would have to have a bit of MA Training before I went just for my own discipline. " You always get some motherf***er trying ice-skate uphill " Taken from Blade.
Hudson Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 A marine wants to train Shaolin? I thought you guys were the toughest guys on earth after basic, why go the extra mile? I'm saving my pennies and doing my research to train Shaolin. I hear its the most intense MA training. Currently I take a style of Kung Fu that has Northern and Southern qualities, and training in Shaolin at the least will let me practice Kung Fu without worrying about other things. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
Zhong Gau Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 the 'train at shaolin temple' gag is sponsored by the chinese government to promote tourism. they recruited an american foreign national of buddist system heritage to be shaolin monk. eventually, after much caoxing and garantees of freedom from persecution and prosecution a few shaolin in hiding monks returned to the temple. I'm not sure if the guys who do the videos are part of the herd or not. Ah! Mantis Grasshopper, i think you would do very nicely on a bowl of rice!
