Kicks Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 We're members of the USTU (United States Tae Kwon Do Union) and the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union). Their Olympic Style sparring competitions are modified WTF rules. AAU also does point sparring. The USTU forms (poomse, kata) are the Taegurks. In AAU competition you can do either the Taegueks, Palgwe, (WTF) or Hyungs (ITF). ChicagoTaeKwonDo Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 There are so many federations, associations, unions and organizations! The differences are mostly (but not exclusively) political, rather than technical. Look for a style and an instruction that you are comfortable with. I'm a firm believer in and practitioner of tae kwon do and have attended schools affiliated with both the International Tae Kwon Do Federation and the World Tae Kwon Do Federation, but in the last twenty or thirty years the number of organizations have exploded for sure. The politics are dizzying for beginners and more advanced students alike.
