Cross Training: Is three to much to handle?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, looking for some opinions here.

I am currently training in Tang Soo Do and Escrima, and am thinking about joining the local Wrestling club. This is what my schedule looks like:

Monday:

Tang Soo Do

6:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M

8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

Tuesday:

Tang Soo Do

6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.

Escrima

8:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.

Wednesday:

Tang Soo Do

6:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M

8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

Thursday:

Tang Soo Do

6:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M

8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

Friday:

Tang Soo Do

5:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M.

6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.

Saturday:

Tang Soo Do

11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

Escrima

12:00 P.M. - 1:30 P.M.

Sunday:

Off

Tang Soo Do and Escrima are at the same place. I usually come in Monday through Thursday at about three and stay to clean up/ help instruct, whatever. As far as I know the Wrestling club meets once a week, on Thursday nights, and there are morning Tang Soo Do classes on Tuesday and Thursday, so I could make up for the missed session.

Any opinions?

Much appreciated.

I would drop the Escrima and take wrestling. It would make a better mix with the Tang soo do. Three would be too much to be great at all of them.

If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point.

Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.

I wouldnt necessarily say its too much in and of itself.

I would say it depends on what the rest of your life is like, job, social, religion, etc.etc.etc.

I know of several pro fighters that train 6 to 8 hours a day in martial arts.

It just depends on what you can do and still mainatin a healthy lifestyle

i agree with lucky boxer, 3 isn't to much until you try to fit in a job, religion, TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY, a social life, etc. if you can fit that around the rest of your schedule, it seems to be all well and good.

and, IMO, escrima is to great of fun to just drop for wrestling, as radok suggested :)

I agree with the other posters. 3 MA's aren't too much, unless you have a lot of other comittments.

You have to try and get an even balance between training and the rest of your life. Prioritise and decide which MA's you'd really prefer to train in.

It's better to be able to give your all to 1 (or 2) martial arts than be too tired to train properly in 3.

However, if you think you'll be able to handle it, then give it a go for a few weeks.

Even if you have to drop one of your MA's after a couple of weeks then there's no shame in that. Everyone's human - we all have a life to fit in, instead of just being a machine who trains.

Thanks guys...here's a breakdown for you.

Job- I'm fifteen. If I REALLY want to get a job, my instructor has offered to pay me for everything I do around the Dojang, but I've declined.

Religion - I'm a non practicing Jew. My religion is "be a good person".

Time with my family - Hahahahahahahahaha...NO.

Social life- Most of my friends attend my Dojang anyway.

Just in case we want to throw it it...

Girlfriend- I wish.

Thanks again guys, any more opinions are welcome and appreciated.

buddy....

your 15!!!!

enjoy High School

It is great to be so enthusiastic about something, but i would be really hesitant in recommending a 15 year old dedicate so much time to one thing...

Sure you may end up being a phenomenon and transforming the martial arts world someday, and will look back and be glad you spent so much time doing it.

But on the other hand you may miss alot of the activities high school has to offer and look back regretting it.

Just keep your options open is all i ask as an outside observer :)

y'know, i wouldn't have thought so at 15 either, but my family's having a bit of a crisis right now, and i've recently realized how important they are to me. be sure to make a bit of time for them; i wish i'd spent a bit more.

I don't go to high school. I do independent study, specifically because I HATED high school. Everyone was messing with me...it was very close to escalating to physical violence, and I know I made the right decision in leaving before it got to that point.

Battousai- I love my family. I simply don't enjoy their company. Plus...they always eat my motzarella cheese :kaioken: heh heh heh.
