MichiganTKD
I wasn't talking about Sun Hang Do, I was talking about Kuk Sool Won. By the way, those uniforms can't be comfortable. I think it's a contest between Kuk Sool Won and Hwa Rang Do over who has the sillier uniforms. My opinion-Welcome to it.

DLopez
Lessee, must end in "Do"... must only wear white dobahk... You've got quite a thoughtful list of criteria as to what constitutes a martial art. I guess every martial art has their "Eum" to go with the "Yang". MichiganTKD
I call'em like I see'em. What exactly is the difference between KSW, Hapkido, and Hwa Rang Do. They all have questionable histories, they all wear silly looking uniforms (although, to be fair, Hapkido's uniform is a little less silly), and they all seem to use the same techniques. So I don't understand what separates them. The definition of "Do", if you recall, is a Way or Path of Life. Since KSW does not have "Do" in it, it seems to imply that it is just a set of rather outdated fighting techniques, most of which were ripped off from other styles. Let's see: Tae Kwon Do kicking, aikido throwing, jujitsiu locking. Add in some weapons you're never going to use in real life and you have one original style. My opinion-Welcome to it. DLopez
"call'em like I see'em" More funny stuff! "A cursory glance" would be more accurate. From the things you've posted, it's painfully clear you have zero knowledge of any other martial art except for maybe your own TKD, while trying to sound like an expert on all of them. Is that the only way you can pump up your TKD, by disrespecting and ridiculing all others with shallow and ignorant, not to mention just plain wrong, prejudices? You mentioned the "Way or Path of Life", yet your posts are devoid of that spirit. I'm disapointed to conclude that if that's the attitude you teach at your dojo, then you are a very poor representative of TKD. MichiganTKD
I never mention KSW or the others because they are not relevant to what I teach. I've never said don't practice them. And yes, I do teach Tae Kwon Do as a Way of Life (Do remember?), not just as a fighting style. By the way, interesting tag line. One aspect of true martial art, or martial way if you will, is humility and no need to brag. I find it interesting that someone bragging about the medals they have won in competition is lecturing me about being a representative about the style they practice. You just keep on practicing your obsolete fringe Korean style. My opinion-Welcome to it.
tommarker
No offense man, but people living in glass houses.... Questionable history: I think ALL Korean arts have suffered this at some point. (Other arts too, to be fair.) Funny looking Uniforms: Umm, when you think about it, the dobahk IS pretty silly. You're basically saying "my funny pajamas are somewhat more serious than your silly pajamas." I've seen quite a few TKD GM wear some outlandish dobahk as well. Jhoon Rhee has a gold one. JP Choi is pretty snazzy as well. Obsolete: Kuk Sool does at least recognize weapons, and the possibility of encountering them. I think you only ace you have left is that is a "Fringe" style, i.e. less popular. Hwa Rang Do has a pretty bizarre history surrounding it, but to say that it, kook sul, and hapkido are the same is like saying, aikido, ju-jitsu, and aikijitsu are the same. If such fringe groups are so silly, in your opinion, why even fret about them? Taking away business? Flashy pajama envy? I'm no longer posting here. Adios. Ya, almost as bad as bragging about triple aerial kicking prowess. You tell me which is worse,... feeling good about your accomplishments, or feeling good by disrespecting and ridiculing others?
