angelica d
Hi guys! I've been landed with the job of getting together a karate-themed Christmas puzzle booklet for our kids class. The idea is that we charge £1 for entries, and the winner gets a lightweight gi. Hopefully, we make a bit of money in the process for the club's 'mat fund'! Anyway, I've done a kata wordsearch, and a karate terminology wordsearch, and now I'm doing a quiz. The problem is thinking up questions that won't be too hard for the newbies, easy to research, but not dead easy either. So far, this is what I've come up with: 1/ Who is often known as the father of modern shotokan karate? (multiple choice answers by the way) 2/ How many shotokan katas are there? 3/ What are the characteristics of a good front/back/horseriding stance? 4/ At what kyu grade do candidates have to perform tekki shodan etc? Any other suggestions guys? I can't have a quiz with only four questions! Help!!!! aefibird
Well, I know it's not related to your quiz... but I have a Shotokan karate crossword that I give out to my lower grades to test them. If you wanna include that then let me know and I'll email it to you. Some other questions... Which kata name means "To storm a fortress"? Which kata name means "Crane on a rock"? What colour belt is 6th kyu? What is the Japanese name for front stance? What animal is often associated with Shotokan karate? Who is the head of our karate organisation? (only applies if you belong to an org! lol) How many Heian kata are there? What does "Sensei" mean? Hope they're OK. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." angelica d
Cheers! They're great questions - I don't kno about the head of the organisation one though, most of our kids would just write 'shihan' or 'the big guy with grey hair' !!! Would you mind if I borrowed some of your questions? I've done a karate wordsearch which I will exchange with your quiz if you like! It's really big and difficult - me and Ollie spent four days doing it - and I'd only written it the day before! Let me know what you think. Anyone else got any quiz questions? CloudDragon
What is an obi? Why do we bow to the flag? (or instructor, or picture of master "smith") Karate begins and ends with _________. Who is your favorite instructor? (actually had this as an extra credit/ joke question on a black belt exam! BTW there was only one instructor at that school.) A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
aefibird
Would you mind if I borrowed some of your questions? I've done a karate wordsearch which I will exchange with your quiz if you like! Feel free to nick as many of my questions as you like! I'll try and think of some more too. If you want me to send you the crossword (it's a Word document, btw) then send me a PM with your email address and I'll pass it on. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." angelica d
CloudDragon, I love the 'favourite instructor' question, there's a real mix at our club(s) so I'm sure we'd get some 'interesting' feedback... aefibird
Here's a few more I thought up: What is the alternative (ie Japanese) name for 'rising block'? What colour belts are worn in most point sparring competitions? (red and blue) What colour belt does ______ have? (Insert name of someone at your club!) What is the name of the first kata that students learn? What is Gohon Ippon Kumite? What is an Oi-zuki? What colour gi's do our club usually wear? What language do we often use in Karate, other than English? "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
