Training/Preparing before beginning Muay Thai in a month

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I plan to begin Muay Thai in about a month or so, and I wanted to know what I should do to condition and prepare myself before I start. I used to work out on a regular basis, however I have since stopped working out and am therefore not in the shape I used to be in. Dont get me wrong, I have no problem running a couple miles, but I cant do it anywhere near as easily as I used to be able to.

Anyway, I am hoping that you guys can tell me exercises and techniques that I can preform to condition myself before beginning MT in about a month or so. Also I dont really have much access to weight equipment right now, so I cant just pump iron like I used to. Thanks a lot guys. I know how intensive MT training is and I dont want to go into it completely unprepared and out of shape. Thanks.

don't worry about it - you don't have a fight in a month, you are only beginning training in a month. The class will get you in shape. I have met WAY too many people who say "I wanna come train with you guys, but I have to get in shape first" - no you don't - the class will take care of that for you. Just show up.

Anyway, that's enough of my rant. your biggest problem will likely be conditioning - start roadwork - runnig 2.5 - 3 miles per day. you can also do various calesthenics - pushups, lots of ab work, lunges, frgo hops, etc.

the better cardio shape you are in the more you will get out of your training.

at some point you dont want to do too much cardio though cause your body will start eating your muscle and that will be counterproductive.

the general rule of thumb I use for fights is that if i am going to fight i run two miles a day for every round i am fighting, I generally never go past 6-8 miles though ever... most of the time even when i am in midst of my hardest training i will rarely ever run over 5 miles....
