CloudDragon Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I was discussing XMA with some friends tonight and we were bouncing some thoughts around. One thing we all decided was that we needed more input from personal experiences, so please list any experience you have had with XMA, whether as a viewer, participant or instructor and your thoughts. A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
Luckykboxer Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I personally think its Gymkata.... reincarnated. go rent the movie, but dont come after me for wasting your money. I have seen some XMA competitors, and besides a semi interesting monkey suit they wear with a clip on belt(chuckles) I wasnt impressed at all. I think when the seed money fails, they may get a couple investors, once that fails it will go the way of the Dodo
battousai16 Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 there's an XMA place near by and i stopped on in one day. watched a class. those are some very ugly uniforms, btw. at any rate, what impressed me most was that the instructor emphasized that what they were learning was NOT for fighting, only flash. and that if they wanted to learn to fight, they should go somewhere else. that impressed me, and for that reason alone i really have no problem with it. CloudDragon Posted August 11, 2004 Author Posted August 11, 2004 battousai, what style was the school? A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
Vito Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 so long as they dont claim its for actual fighting, have fun, i say. as for its staying power, i dont think so- but look at this aktins *, you never know how long its fifteen minutes will be. granmasterchen Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 it just creates a new and different generation of martial artists....personally i am glad i dont fall into that generation...but that is just my opinion, i am more interested in the true art form and enlightenment through mental, spiritual and physical conditioning....i like all the old school methods of things,,,,but again,....just my opinion That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
Shorinryu Sensei Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I think that as long as the XMA instructor (I won't demean the name sensei with these people) emphasises and admits that it is purely flash for show and not a viable "martial art", I think it's OK and probably good exercise. However, if the instructor tells his people it is good for self-defense, then he's lying to his people and taking money from them under false pretexts. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
battousai16 Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 tae kwon do-ish. the guy who runs the school was a stunt double for the red ranger, which is there claim to fame. "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
CloudDragon Posted August 14, 2004 Author Posted August 14, 2004 Hmm, you know that Mike "Chat" just tested into the American Taekwondo Association as a 3rd or 4th degree. I wonder if this has anything to do with it. BTW Chat was the blue ranger. A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
Rotten Head Fok Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 I don't know much about XMA, but if people are happy learning it I am all for any aspects of ma training and living. You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! The martial arts are easy to learn, but difficult to correct.
