aefibird
Well, the Olympics start soon (in case you hadn't heard ). Which events are you most looking forward to watching? Who do you think will be the dead certs for gold and who could throw up some surprises? Personally, I'm looking forward to watching the martial arts events (naturally ) and the equestrian events. Go Pippa Funnell! I'm also interested in the ladies hammer throw too. That's because one of the women contenders (the one for GB) only took up the hammer throw just under 18months ago. Before that she had no previous athletics experience at all - she was a professional ballet dancer!! It'll be interesting to see how she gets on. "Was it really worth it? Kicks
Of course I'll be pulling for Steven Lopez (2000 gold medalist) and Nia Abdallah in the Tae Kwon Do event. I've met Steven and have photos of him competing at the 2003 USTU Nationals at the bottom of http://www.livaudaisnet.com/mafit/mafit03.htm My daughter attended a seminar by Jean Lopez (Steven's brother) at the 2004 AAU Nationals. Jean is the coach of the US team in Athens. See a photo of Jean and Shannon at the bottom of http://www.livaudaisnet.com/mafit/mafit04.htm when you create the world's largest trailer park, you're going to have tornadoes
Luckykboxer
Im looking forward to watching the weightlifting, Boxing, and Gymnastics. the martial arts part frustrates me because i see no reason kickboxing shouldnt be there. Basketball is ugly atm... I am a huge basketball fan, but the US doesnt ever send a team anymore they send 12 individuals who all want glory and have no interest in working together. All they want to do is drive and dunk and make a highlight reel. I am actually hoping the world kicks our butts this time. With european players who practice shooting on the perimeter and passing and defense, who knows maybe it will snap a few young kids back to reality and stop the horsecrap that has become basketball of late... in case you dont realize it i love the sport but am furious how it has been heading recently
SaiFightsMS
I am a big gymastics fan. I enjoy the track and field events too. Actually I love the whole smorgasboard of events presented.
solar_kid
I hate to say it, but I can't get into the olympics. I don't really feel a personal stake in it enough to get excited about it. It seems like the athletes are so into their sport, and train so hard... i dunno... it's so far above what I can relate to that it might as well be on another planet. And it's too bad. I want to like that pursuit of excellence. I want to admire the athletes. I want to be moved by the spirit of the event. But I'm not. And it means that I have to watch my West Wing reruns at a funny time! ----Hmm. Hello. This is the floor. How did I get here?
DLopez
Hey Kicks, let's hear it for the Lopez's!! I like to go by **cough cough** "D-Lo" myself. (no not really!!) Nice topic aefibird! I've always liked the Olympics, despite all the controversies. I will definitely be watching the TKD events more closely than I have before. I like the boxing too! I have too many "favorites" to be able to list them all without forgetting some. But track, swimming, volleyball, basketball, baseball, gymnastics... just to name a few. I want to know why auto racing isn't an Olympic sport! Heck, I'd try out for that event!! DeanDahn Boh Nim - Black-Brown BeltKuk Sool Won"Dream as if you'll live forever. Kicks
Hey Kicks, let's hear it for the Lopez's!! I like to go by **cough cough** "D-Lo" myself. (no not really!!) LOL.. when I first saw your name DLopez I had to think "Could that be Diana Lopez?? No way! Way? Have you meet them? They are right there in Sugarland, TX. Have you trained with them? When my daughter took the seminar with Jean at the AAU Nationals this summer I met him and now think the world of him. Even though he had someone ask me to stop video recording his seminar, Jean was very polite and courteous when I spoke to him later. He posed for a photo with Shannon and even remembered her and her name later when she won in Olympic sparring and he walked up to her and congratulated her. What great character! I wish him and Steven the best at the Olympics! http://www.livaudaisnet.com/mafit/AAU04lopez.jpg Jean Lopez (coach US Olympic TKD team) and Shannon when you create the world's largest trailer park, you're going to have tornadoes
DLopez
Have you meet them? They are right there in Sugarland, TX. Have you trained with them? No, sorry. But I do have a good friend (Dave Wilson) that lives down in Sugarland who's a black belt TKD'er. He might know him. You never know! Small world, right? Rotten Head Fok
I watched many of the qualifiers, but I don't know how or where to watch the MA competitions. Help please ? I think we (USA) will take some gold in swimming! You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! The martial arts are easy to learn, but difficult to correct.
