Akima Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 The site lacks details such as the programs, costs, and obligations. These are the three things that really show a McDojo.
DLopez Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Whatever Akima. You're letting your anti-KSW sentiments cloud your reasoning. You are the first person I've ever heard say such a thing about websites = McDojos, and I'll bet if it wasn't a Kuk Sool Won website, you'd probably feel differently about it. Your anti-KSW feelings are well documented in the other thread. No need to plaster them everywhere else. Now looking at that video you posted. That was funny, I needed a laugh, thanks Glad I could return the favor. I've been laughing at your posts in the other thread the whole time. You come up with some funny stuff! SBN Doug Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Somebody made this quote in another forum regarding Kuk Sool Won...KSW often seemed little more that TKD with joint locks. A little more focus on punching, but nearly everything was kicks, especially in the forms. While this isn't germane to your question, the forms always seemed rather "made up" to me. There was a focus on forms, but they seemed primarily meant for physical fitness. Very rarely did I get to a point in a form where I could see that the form was reinforcing a joint technique. The school I studied at did a lot of grappling, but I think this was the instructor's interest, not an actual part of regular KSW curriculum. The grappling was good. There was no effort at integrating the long range kicks, medium range punches, close range joint locks and the grappling. If you saw two KSW people sparring, it was like seeing any two people from a primarily kicking art going at it. I felt that there should be a point at where everything should begin to blend together and reinforce each other. That didn't happen. How would you reply to this? Jeesh, I take a week to move back to Texas, and a whole 3 pages gets posted on KSW. My reply is similar to DLopez. Whoever posted that comment didn't take KSW for very long. I've been studying for over ten years, and I wouldn't think of switching. Your being in Texas, near the World Headquarters, is a benefit, as they all stay the closest to the Grandmaster's goals of instruction. Instructors are almost always supportive, and never degrading. You will learn a lot of material, and that's why it takes so long. However, don't think that you'll have it all at 1st degree, because I'm about to start testing for third, and I still have a long way to go. ZR440 Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 KSN Doug, If you see a 2002 Pontiac T/A coming up in your rear view mirror, you better get out of the way. It's probably the D-man late for practice. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
kswbrown Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Akima doesn’t have much respect for our 13 year old 2nd degree black belt. O.K. then I would ask how can some only 105 pounds and someone 220 pounds both be world boxing champions. You cannot argue that both have talent and deserve their titles as long as they prove it in competition. The same should go for the 13-year-old 2nd degree black belt. Don’t judge her until you’ve seen her in action.

DLopez Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 No, mine is a '98, but only the body. Everything else is so totally not stock anymore, it can barely be called a Pontiac! I think it was someone else in General Chat that mentioned they had a 2002 model, but no biggie! KSNDoug, I will be attending my first black belt test up at Kingwood College next week. Maybe we'll bump into each other if you're going to be there. kswbrown, don't fret over Akima's opinions too much. They're not based on any real experience with KSW at all. Akima's just trying to get under the skin of anyone associated with KSW. DeanDahn Boh Nim - Black-Brown BeltKuk Sool Won"Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die tomorrow." - James Dean

DLopez Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 Yes, aefibird, it's my first of many black belt tests. I don't know if it's just a KSW thing, or of other styles do it this way also, but no one gets their black belt after just one test. My instructor took 7 tests before he was promoted to 1st degree black belt. It's just something I must be prepared to persevere through. Thank you for the well wishes! SBN Doug Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 I went through 7 or 8 myself. I'll be there, but at the 9:30 testing. Possibly as a judge, but certainly to watch my buddies in their 3rd degree testing. I'll begin mine in November. You'll see my 2002 black on black T/A (still with CT plates ) in the lot. If I don't catch you before the test, good luck on your. Be sure to hydrate yourself well. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
