LiTtLeDrAgOn Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 No! Jeet Kune Do is "A way of Life" a guide not to be followed, Merely "A Finger Pointing to the moon, Do not concentrate on the finger or you will miss all the heavenly glory"-Bruce Lee- JkD was in terms, Bruce Lee's "Way" so to speak.....Not everyone elses' "Way"....... he used and utilize, broke down, shed away all that he knew and used it. JkD is just a mirror in which we see ourselves in...The Brand Name is nothing specail. (If anyone would like to break down wat I just said or has any advice for me please do so) I have been reading some of Bruce's books recently and that is basically wat I have learned about JkD.....but I might have left something out. Thank u. A wise man once said..."Courage is not the abstinence of fear. It is what is done when the emotion of fear is present....That is courage my friend" -Jordan Galendiez
47MartialMan Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 If you like reading about JKD and Bruce, I recomend this one its good. " I've lost faith in the Chinese clasical arts-though I still call mine chinese" pg.53 Curious, which book was this in? Or are you being facetious? Of the first, perhaps calling it Chinese, because he WAS Chinese (which he claim his US citizenship-somewhat trying to have cake and eat it too) So perhaps JKD is American. And don't let me raant on those ethic groups, like Asian-Americans, Italian-Americans, etc., as if they are "seperate Americans" from other Amercians....geez. Of the second, somewhat of a "oxy-moron". If he had stated this, makes me wonder of his terms of philosophy. Hmmn....LittleDragon reminds me of someone......
thaiboxerken Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 I'd call JKD an American art.. it's more like America, a mixing pot and an experiment in progression. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
Shane Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 JKD philosophy: YES If we're going name a country here I'm going to have to agree it came from America, with some Chinese influence. Since it is a philosophy that is available for any of us to use, I do not think of it as American, Chinese or any other place, I just see it as a great philosophy that is available to the world. A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!

No, I mean philosophy per intellect, as making such a statement, if he had: " I've lost faith in the Chinese clasical arts-though I still call mine chinese"
Drunken Monkey Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Of the first, perhaps calling it Chinese, because he WAS Chinese (which he claim his US citizenship-somewhat trying to have cake and eat it too) what? i'm born and raised in the uk. does that mean i'm NOT chinese? Of the second, somewhat of a "oxy-moron". If he had stated this, makes me wonder of his terms of philosophy why? him not having faith in the chinese arts has no bearing on what he calls his art. if anything, if he truely believed that his art could possibly revive/restore his and hence other people's faith in the chinese arts then why wouldn't/shouldn't he call it a chinese art? after all, if you believe that your martial art is losing something, then wouldn't you try to restore that thing to its original glory? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
47MartialMan Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 i'm born and raised in the uk. does that mean i'm NOT chinese? No, I mean that his ords did not relfect that he did not mean he wasnt or wanted his art to not be in relation him not having faith in the chinese arts has no bearing on what he calls his art. if anything, if he truely believed that his art could possibly revive/restore his and hence other people's faith in the chinese arts then why wouldn't/shouldn't he call it a chinese art? Yes, I believe he had a cultural pride. After all, people did not want to recognize his accomplishements, at first, because he was Chinese
Drunken Monkey Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 No, I mean that his ords did not relfect that he did not mean he wasnt or wanted his art to not be in relation this makes sense how? Yes, I believe he had a cultural pride. After all, people did not want to recognize his accomplishements, at first, because he was Chinese actually, i think it was more due to his stubborness/thick skin more than pride. it was, to me, kinda like him saying "you don't want me to teach, hell, i WILL teach AND it WILL be a chinese style". especially with the questioning of his background and all that..... calling it chinese would've been his way to say both "screw you" AND "i'm doing it for the chinese people" at the same time. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
