yireses Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Is Jeet Kune Do consider a Chinese Martial Art? or is it consider a mixed martial art? The knowing of Violence and living in no violence brings peace.Shaolin Chuan Fa
Shorin Ryuu Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 I don't think it is (I can only guess whether or not Chinese martial artists consider one...). Bruce Lee would say it is only a path rather than an style...or something. But officially, I don't think it is, someone correct me if I am wrong please. Luckykboxer Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 Jeet Kun Do is not a style. You should pick up a copy of the book Tao of Jeet Kun Do its a hard read, but its a good read. Its more a philosophy. One thing about it is it is incomplete. And it is progressive. It also started hundreds of years before Bruce Lee was born, He himself stated there were no original principles in hsi book, they were already out there, he just brought them together.
manuelito Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 read the book. that should answer your question. pain is weakness leaving the body.fear is the mind killer, i will face my fear and let it pass threw me. from the movie "dune"i know kung fu...show me. from the movie "the matrix"
47MartialMan Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I am happy to see that some people relisze that LKD is not a particular style, but a path. One can say that as Martial Artists, we are ALL JKD Practitioners. I grow weary of the "JKD Bandwagon"
Vito Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 luckys right in that jkd is not a martial art as bruce lee designed it. however, these days, there are martial arts instructors who teach 'jeet kun do.' any of those however, wouldnt really be chinese. 47martialman's also right- if you practice your martial art to the best of YOUR abilities to become the best fighter you can be, youre practicing the same philosophy of jeetkundo as bruce lee intended. and yea, i too am weary of that bandwagon. CloudDragon Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Bruce Lee was from China, and he had a base of Chinese MA, the JKD crest has Chinese characters. I would say that the base of JKD is Chinese, I belive whether it is a style or concept is not the question, but from where the roots of JKD grow. IMHO it begins from a Chinese base and branches out into all styles, and is a living breathing thing, always open to change and individual interpretation. A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
