Amazingly good point Joe. Kind of like the young idiots who watch wwf and then go out back and get hurt breaking chairs on each other.

hey joanne, did you mean 'martial arts' or specifically karate?

Its suprising people havent done that yet. The amount of programs about things like skydiving, and sumo wrestling... i'm sure more people are interested in martial arts than sumo wrestling - no offense to sumo's.

and not just karate either, ty ;) hehe

I'd love to see more sport martial arts on tv.. on the few occasions I've seen Judo/TKD/Kickboxing matches on TV I've really enjoyed watching them. Eurosport used to show lots of that sort of thing, and Sumo, but recently they only ever show K1 and even that's not on until 1am! :(

The only other time we see Judo/TKD is during the olympics.

less people do karate means the benifit 4 me1!!!!!!!!!

I am still training however, having dabbled in Shotokan and Shotokai Karate. I am please to report that Kenshukai is one of the strongest and most disciplined styles ( i did not write this)

I heard from someone that there was going to be a FIGHT CHANNEL on cable. This was supposed be happening pretty soon. That would be awesome! Boxing, wrestling, judo, karate, ufc, pride, k-1, fencing, kendo, etc. I wish. :)

If karate and martial arts in general became more popular, i think that alot more people would participate just because its "cool" and "popular" so the skill level of the students would decrease and the ability to find dedicated students would deminish.

I think it's a trade-off. On the one hand the public promotion of the arts on t.v. and in the movies stimulates interest in the arts. On the negative side people (especially kids) approach the martial arts believing that it mainly consist of the very dynamic and flamboyant techniques displayed in the movies and t.v. In some respects it also conveys the idea that you have to be super athletic in order to learn and effectively utilize martial arts skills.

In the end you have to take the good with the bad so overall I appreciate the publicity, especially the type that comes from classic acts like Jack Chan and Chuck Norris.
