Having a TV channel dedicated to Martial arts would be EXTREMELY cool, but I'm happy with the popularity otherwise as it is. I don't know, I just feel that if nearly everyone in the world studied martial arts they would lose a lot of their honour and mystery, and special feeling about em

Well, Joanne you're over there in England ... here in the States martial arts is quite popular indeed! We have cartoons, movies and television series portraying the martial arts! Commercials have now even incorporated the martial arts.... "Moms are you're childrens karate uniforms as white as they can be?...

We do have a lot more movies with more quality in their martial arts scenes and we do have Jackie Chan in cartoons every saturday. Yes, we have a lot and it would be really cool to have a martial arts channel.

I would really like to see quality martial arts programming. But, without generating too many new McDojo's in the process.

How to increase programming and increase availibility of quality instruction? :???: :

The problem in the West is that you have football, hockey, and basketball taking up the scene. Hell, cheeleading takes up more media then we do. We have to make Karate more showy for the crowd. We have to make it exciting and fun. Make it so we are not only Competitors, but entertainers as well. I don't mean we should become like the WWF. We should make tournaments for the spectators just as much for the competitors.

Interesting idea Karetaka. More flash. There are traditionalists out there who would be in a fighting frenzy over that idea. It is a good point though. And it is very true that the average person cannot appreciate much of what the marial arts entail.

I think in a speicalty channel of martial arts there should be both: flash for the un-enlightened and tradion mixed in together.

I'd kill for karate to be more popular. love it and love watching it. on te other hand, there would always be those losers that would use karate that they had seen on t.v. on each other and they would go around hitting people. I guess it's sort of a catch 22. :karate:
