Vito Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 random question for people- ever notice that a lot of martial artists who are multiple rank blackbelts (have been doing it for quite a while) have huge flagrant mullets? i began to notice this when the leader of some shaolin kung fu organization, a chinese guy, had a gigantic mullet. next thing i know im looking around at kenpo guys, karate guys, and they all have mullets. its like they cut themselves off from society when they started training (back in the 80's) and were never told that mullets arent trendy anymore. anyone else ever notice this, or am i just crazy? Odysseus Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 Main Entry: mul·let Pronunciation: 'm&-l&t Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural mullet or mullets Etymology: Middle English molet, from Middle French mulet, from Latin mullus red mullet, from Greek myllos : any of a family (Mugilidae) of valuable chiefly marine food fishes with an elongate rather stout body So, are martial artists using fish as a new type of weapon, or is there some other meaning of mullet that I don't know? 1st Degree Black Belt, Jhoon Rhee Style Tae Kwon Do
Squawman Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 There is a TKD guy in our area who has the mullet but braided. If thats not bad enough he has his kids hair the same way. Along the same lines, when you get around alot of martial artists like at a tournament, sometimes you can't help but laugh at some of them. You know the ones I'm talking about. The ones that just try too hard looking the part. Plus one more thing and I'll shut up but why are alot of Karate guys I see sporting a big ol' gut. No offense to Karate guys it's just an observation.
aefibird Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 Squawman, I know what you mean. I call it the 'Shihan Syndrome', seen as a lot of (Western) high Dan grade karate guys look like they eat nothing but burgers and fries all day long. My own Chief Instructor is a case in point - huge gut on him. However, do not underestimate the power of the fatties - my Chief Instructor has got a kick as powerful as a cart-horse and punches to match. "Was it really worth it? ZR440 Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 Ever been to mulletsgalore.com? It's really sweet. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
tommarker Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 Probably because those guys have been training since before the mullet was cool... Some guys have real problems changing their haircuts.. next thing you know, you've got a 20 year old mullet because you always tell the barber "same as last time!" I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
