Bad_Vibes Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Well spaceman, did you find a good dojo? I also live in the same area and am searching. What's funny is the one I'm currently trying out is the one you said didn't look like a mcdojo in the phone book. The director/head instructor is a student of the late Terry Gibson of Gibson's Martial Arts. I beleive another of his students has a school called Adam's Martial Arts. They seem to be primarily Thai Boxing which I am very interested in. I sent ya a PM to see if you found a good school.
47MartialMan Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 I agree with DM on this one. Also, I think Spaceman is trying to set a standard or criteria on something by a observation from a mere ad. I do not completely understand his attempt, so I am not trying to bash him either. The best thing to do is go visit, check the instructor's qualifications, and perhaps partcipate.
kay Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 I started my training in a so callled Mcdojo. I received my blackbelt in said program. I did however, find my way to a Kenpo dojo. ( I love my kenpo.) I learned a lot in the mcdojo. I use to call it Lite Karate. The school I went to is huge, over 30 schools in my area. I have to give this school at least a B+ because it did sell confidence, but it also delivered. Still it was a Lite Karate program.

47MartialMan Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Did the McDojo have a highly colorful play area?
CapitalKarate Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 imo, most karate tae kwon do dojos are mcdojos, the majority of them Joshua Brehm-When you're not practicing remember this; someone, somewhere, is practicing, and when you meet them, they will beat you.
