plainwhitets Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 Does anyone study shaolin-kung fu? if so, what's it like?
Rotten Head Fok Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 I study CLF which has it's origins from both Northern & Southern Shaolin Temples. I like it, it has everything an art could want in general terms. You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! The martial arts are easy to learn, but difficult to correct.
aefibird Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 Rotten, could you tell me a bit about Choy-Li-Fut, please? It's an art I know very little about. Thanks! "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
sAtelitte Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 Traditional forms, Weapons (staff, shaolin sword, 3 section staff, ...), sparring (semi-contact), iron hand, plenty of low stances... You should go to a shaolin academy in your area and see for yourself how its like, different things could be thaught there then the once i just mentioned https://www.shaolin.be
Hudson Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Has anyone trained at the temple or know anyone who has? Shaolin Kung Fu interests me because of the way Shaolin Monks train at the temple (Or from what I've heard.) The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
sAtelitte Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 My sifu went to study the art there about 20 years ago (somewhere in the 80's) and gratuated there as first westerner. He doesn't talk about it much though i don't think there are too many "foreigners" who trained at the temple itself, if you want to go to china you would probably be sent to a school where they train hundreds (thousands even) at once. Anyway i don't know much about it, Drunken Monkey is the one you should talk to. https://www.shaolin.be
ahultqui Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Yup Likewise for us, in our school, we have 2 sifu's (both brothers) and one sigun(not sure on the spelling), the Sigun and one sifu went to a Shaolin temple to train but like the previous post, they don't talk about it. And well I can't just expect him to As was also said I don't think many forgien people go to train there, either that or they are not welcome I guess ? One does evil if one does nothing at all.http://www.shaolin.co.zahttp://www.aftermatch.net (Personal)
Drunken Monkey Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 ...everyone is welcome. entry fee is (the last time i checked) US$3000. that is, US$1000 per 'year' and includes dorm accommodation hostel stylee and 'food'. not really sure what the 'house-rules' are, esp about leaving the site. i still believe that better shaolin kung fu is to be found outside of that place. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
sAtelitte Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Shaolin Kung Fu DOES NOT exists. hmmm....would you care to explain why not? https://www.shaolin.be
