plainwhitets Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 anyone know anything about Okinawan karate styles, i've been looking online and at first I found out that there were two main styles, shorei-ryu and shorin-ryu, then i went to another site that said there were four main styloes, goju-ryu, shorei-ryu, shorin-ryu and uetchi-ryu (or something like that, I forget). I'm sort of confused. I would like to learn Okinawan Karate and just want to learn more. thanks
P.A.L Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 if you are interested in Okinawan Karate I refer you to "Mark Bishop" book, on the net ,look for 3 major source of Karate based on Location 1- shuri(TE) 2- Naha(TE) or Shorei(TE) 3- Tomari(TE) Shorin-ryu styles come from Shuri, GoJo-ryu , Uechi-ryu, Ryuei-ryu comes from Naha-te I don't know about pure Tomari-te schools but every time I am confused about a kata I try to see the Tomari version since it's one of the original versions.
MawashiGeri60 Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 well the style i take is okinawan Goju Ryu . its by far the best style ive took so far . very intresting . They concentrate in close fighting . and the development of the mind , body and spirit through the training of sanchin kata .
