Emerson Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 I'm from Ardmore, just outside of Philly. Does anyone know of any good MA schools in this area? I haven't decided what style I will go with but since I'm just getting started, convenience will be a huge plus.
TangSooGuy Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 Well, not knowing what you'e looking for, I'd tell you that your best bet is to go out a visit as many schools as you can in your area, watch some classes, and talk with instructors, then decide which is best for you. That said, if you're at all interesred in Tang Soo Do, I know a ton of instructors in the Philly area. You can send me a private message here at this board if you're interested in visiting any of those schools and checking them out.
G95champ Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 Look for an ISKA school in Philly. Its a shotokan school ran by master Okazaki. One of the great teachers in Shotokan. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
CWilder Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 If your willing to drive 45 minutes you can go to the Princeton Academy of Martial Arts. https://www.pamausa.com Sifu Tucci teaches, and a relatively varied curriculum including JKD, Muay Thai, Kali, Silat, and a grappling course that incorporates BJJ. ~ C
Emerson Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Thanks for the input guys. I am a college student so distance and finances will play a large factor into my decision. I don't want to be to idealistic about what MA I choose, as long as I get my tail out there. Otherwise I'll never get started. This being said I am very open to trying any discipline. What are ISKA and Tang Soo Do? Thanks
G95champ Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 ISAK is a Shotokan Karate Org. The ISKA was fromed out of the JKA. I really dont much about it Im in the FSKA now although I trained ISKA but I never knew the details. Bottome line its just and org. for Shotokan. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
