Shorinryu Sensei Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 Unfortunately no, I don't have any nursing home contacts. Good idea though, so I'll keep my ears open. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
delta1 Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 If firearms aren't an option, I'll go with Escrima sticks. They're practical, fun, inexpensive, translate to many other weapons easily. What's not to like? Freedom isn't free!
Vito Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 i really like the sais and the nunchucks... although i bet if id trained with a katana id like it the most. like delta1 said though, assuming i dont have a compensated gloc 9 or 45 option. nunchucks are still useful today, though (you can conceal them, and easily use them on someone, you know.) dancin_ash Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 I would have to go with a baseball bat Dont approach me, I wont approach u.Dont insult me, I wont insult u.
Ravencroft Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 i dont like the nunchucks for combatatives. i mean if u try striking with them and u connect ur controlled momentum is gone which would suck totally if there are multiple attackers. trapping gets too complicated in my opinion, theyre just too hard to use in so many situations. what they are good for though more than almost any other weapon is looking cool. hehe. but aside from that i only do flashy type stuff with them because it builds better coordination and i think thats what they are good for. not being directly combatative. if u think about it lots of sweet * martial arts weapons dont work anymoe cuz half of them arent even concealable. i think its always good to use some weapons though cuz u can apply it to other applications(armed and unarmed). stick and knife combat is good, maybe some staff too. but to carry weapons on the street if u must i would say go with the most modern street weapons, switchblades, pepper spray, a cane even, and even guns now. i personally am not a big fan of carrying weapons around in public unless i actually feel like i might need it. but then again i dont live in LA.
yamesu Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Bo-staff, and 3section staff. I love training with Katana and katana/wakizashi though.nunchucks are still useful today, though (you can conceal them, and easily use them on someone, you knowyoud use nunchucks on someone you knew? im glad we havent met........... harleyt26 Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 for street use I would have to say my choice would be tekkos(similar to brass nuckels)they are small enough for easy concealment but can be used to defend against most weapons except firearms of course.Even some grappling is possible. My kobudo system uses all the normal okinawan weapons too,my favorite weapons to train with would be the bo followed by sai then tonfa then kama.We also do nunchaku, eku, tembei and rochin and the surruchin. The surruchin would also be easily concealed but it is not an easy weapon to become efficient at. migi kamae, migi bo kihon ichi
manuelito Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 for me bo staff first then escrima sticks. pain is weakness leaving the body.fear is the mind killer, i will face my fear and let it pass threw me. from the movie "dune"i know kung fu...show me. from the movie "the matrix"
Sunrunner Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 I think I am definetly a bo person...I think I will always go back to that when I have a choice. My second choice would have to be a bow...archery is my other prefered martial art. Sunrunner"train until the art becomes an artless art, flowing from the unconscious."
