Budderfly Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 I pay $100 CDN a month and I have 2 regular classes, up to 3 optional classes and 1 optional specialty class. A little more pricey than other schools but I definately think it's worth it. We also have no testing fees in our school, but we do have to pay for our belts ($8-10 CDN) and for the board we break.
bluetiger Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 I'm not even going to tell you guys what it costs for my three boys and myself per month. I will say this. In some areas of the U.S., martial arts is very expensive. It's one of the reasons I've never been able to do it until now.
Coco Posted August 13, 2004 Author Posted August 13, 2004 Whoa, good news I guess... I thought I was getting ripped off so I told my sensei I would join this other gym, then he got desperate and called me the next day now besides karate on mon/wed/fri, I get an extra class on saturday and he gives me free fitness/kickboxing classes on tues/thurs and he told me that if i wanted to learn jujitsu or judo to just ask him and HE will teach me After this change, and reading all of your posts im starting to belive im not really paying too much.(except for the pricey fee for each belt's test) Thanks for all of your replys - Coco Shito Ryu (3rd kyu) RETIRED - 2002-2003Now studying BJJ(2006)
Red J Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Good, and you have to realize that you live in a major city. Prices tend to be higher than in rural areas. Good luck. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
pittbullJudoka Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 70 buck a month isn't bad but the price on belt tests are out ragious. The most I've ever known any one to pay was 100 but that was for a black belt promotion which al the fee covered was the belt, the certificate from the instructor and a certificate from the home school in Okinowa signed by the highest ranked people in that style. But that kind of money for a kyu test is lame
manuelito Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 this is a quality versus quantity question. if you like it then keep doing it. you are not paying an extreme amount in my opinion. i would say average. do you enjoy it? do youi feel like you are learning? do not worry about aother people telling you that you are paying too much or even too little. in case you are wondering, like this matters, i pay about $70 a month and my next testing fee will be about $400 (black belt) and i have no problem with what i give out to my martial art. it all comes back in the end. pain is weakness leaving the body.fear is the mind killer, i will face my fear and let it pass threw me. from the movie "dune"i know kung fu...show me. from the movie "the matrix"
bluetiger Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 and i have no problem with what i give out to my martial art. it all comes back in the end. Very well put, manuelito. I may have to use that one on my wife one day!
joker8778 Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Within my style we pay per lesson £6 and our gradings are all £15 and that includes the belt except for when you grade to black belt then all you pay fer is the belt. If you can imagine it,you can achiece it.If you can dream it, you can become it.
Coco Posted August 21, 2004 Author Posted August 21, 2004 You should read my other post named "McDojos." There, I probably explain most of the stuff. And yes, test grading ARE expensive XD Shito Ryu (3rd kyu) RETIRED - 2002-2003Now studying BJJ(2006)
