G95champ Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Shotokan mixes or take well with other styles because Funakoshi himself understood long before Bruce Lee ever thought about it that there is no style. Yeah Shotokan students get grouped into a traditional bouring art but we are really very diverse in our applications and techinques. We have a lot of throws, takedowns, locks, etc. and you can pretty much leave shotokan and go into any other style and do well I would hope the inverse is true as well (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."

username9 Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 This might be an old forum now but If it was SKU Shukokai - you won't find any down south. All the clubs are listed on the website: http://www.sku.org.uk Shukokai has higher stances and is indeed based from Shito Ryu. Sensei Tani took it and evovled it. Shukokai is based on dynamic moves and plyometric power! It is very much based on striking and unfortunately there is litte or no grappling being taught.
