Prodigy-Child
for competition the cresent kick or axe kick as it is called up here is great because it is very visual and when a judge sees it land it scores big points and can turn a fight around on a self defense aspect its not a good kick You can boo me if you want, You know I'm right!-Chris Rock
Angus
Crescent kick and axe kick are two different things. Axe kick slices back down on the person's head/shoulder while the crescent kick makes a circular path while is essentially meant to go thru the head. They lok the same but are very different. SuperMinh
Yep, the crescent kick i was talking about was the "inside to outside" kick where you usually hit the opponent's head or guard with the side of your foot. The axe kick is the one where you slam your heel back down to his head/shoulder...
Kickbutt
Crescent kick=Hook kick?????? If you think something small cannot make a difference - try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room.-Unknown-
SuperMinh
Hmm i think hook kick and crescent kicks are different things Kickbutt. The hook kick is like a roundhouse kick but "the other way round" if i'm not mistaken... So the part of your foot making contact in a hook kick is either the ball of your foot or the heel. You're usually aiming for the side of the head and your toes are pointing to your side. The crescent kick on the other hand, has your toes pointing upwards towards the ceiling. ramcalgary
The crescent kick and hook kick are totally differant. The crescent kick is useless in the ring or on the street it does not generate enough power to warrent the risk of such a high predictable kick... KickChick
Any crescent kick (inside;striking with inside area of foot or outside;striking with outside area of foot) is used mostly as a defensive kick to block a punch, knife attack, or knock a gun away. It is too easy to block to be used as an offensive kick. Must be fairly close to opponent to use the kick. The higher you kick, the closer you must be. Please refrain from name calling ramcalgary...there is an increasing number of us "tkd freaks" here on the forum now!
