Hiya people,

I'm having a wee problem here - my music collection is stagnating! That is to say, I've listened to everything I own a million times and I'm getting sick of it.

I was brought up in a household that was really strongly into music - my father (who died when I was less than a year but still influenced me) was a punk musician, my mother met him through love of music, my step-father spent all his pay on vinyl and a good stereo, followed by sexy CD players in every room of the house and all the cars later on when we actually had some money.

I have pretty eclectic taste - Nina Hagen, Bjork, Nigel Kennedy, The Rolling Stones, Basement Jaxx, St Germain, Missy Elliot, Britney Spears (only the ultra ultra sl*tty stuff, I don't do half measures or soppy crap ), Frank Sinatra, Chemical Brothers... You get the idea.

So what I'm asking ya'll is can you please recommend me something new? The artists/albums you love and could rave on about for hours, the singles that made you feel something, the rave CD that you danced to for 12 hours... I'm open to anything.

I'd be eternally grateful. 8)

ha; i don't wanna keep you to long. i was in your position not to long ago, so i hung around in the city for a week or so, just wandering places, listening to street musicians and going to local concerts and stuff. they usually have something good to offer, and more often than that they'll stop and talk to you about who they like and who influenced them and such.

me, i'm a big incubus fan; i dig the way rammstein blends their harmonys and melodies. it's like every note gives you that tingling feeling. the dropkick murphys are pretty awsome, and if you dig frank sinatra, i've been hearing good things about jamie cullum. he does a lot of covers and what not, though none of them are exceptional. i was amazed at how easily jimi hendrix's "wind cries marry" transfered into smooth jazz :o .

time lapse consortium is a good jam/funk band, but you can only find 'em online. you gotta order boot legs of the concert; but all the money goes to the make yourself foundation, which is cool. propagandhi if you're into hard core punk at all. the white stripes have some good stuff. i'm in a super huge cake funk right now; they have some awsome songs and even there lesser ones are super catchy.

Well, I'll rattle on for hours to anyone who'll listen about how great metal and punk music is.

I'm also into 70's rock, such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Motorhead, etc etc etc.

The bands that I've been listening to the most lately, though, are Rancid, Pennywise, The Ramones, Flogging Molly, Emperor, Amen, early Metallica and Jerry Cantrell.

Oh, and I've also listened a lot to the Blues Brothers soundtrack lately too.

It's seemingly completely unrelated musically to any of the bands mentioned before, but the songs are great and just beg to be sang-along to at high volume!

If you really have varied tastes in music, then you will probably like listening to anything by Ry Cooder. From country-rock slide guitar, to salsa-flavored latin beats, he sounds good doing it all.

Big Head Todd And The Monsters is another of my faves - somtimes jazzy, sometimes driving rock n roll, always easy to listen to. "ICU in everything" is a song you can listen to over and over and over...

Lessee... I never seem to get tired of listening to Coldplay.

Fleetwood Mac's "Bare Trees" cd, IMO, sounds better than anything they put out after Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined, and that's saying a lot!

Aefibird, for some really good '70s rock, take a listen to these bands if you can find them:

Captain Beyond (1st album)

Armageddon

Wishbone Ash ("Live Dates" cd/album is really good!)

Just a few suggestions. :)

Dean

Dahn Boh Nim - Black-Brown Belt

Yeah, but they're still good.

The Dropkick Murphy's are great - it was through listening to them that I first started listening to Flogging Molly.

DLopez - I already listen to Armageddon and Wishbone Ash, but I've never heard anything by Captain Beyond, so I'll check them out. Thanks!

oh, and i can't believe i forgot them, but electric 6. i totally dig them; they're a disco/rock combo with lyrics so ridiculously cliche that they're hilarious. definitely check 'em out.
