Henry South Posted December 4, 2001 Posted December 4, 2001 in case you were wondering i am not a police man but i do know one. apparently if you were about to be mugged on the streets or someone challenged you in a drunken or angry manner in the street you have to warn them THREE times of what grade you posses in your martial art and what martial art you practice before you can attack them and for it to be classed as self-defence! anyone else got any unknown laws about martial arts on the streets? yours Henry South
Iron Arahat Posted December 4, 2001 Posted December 4, 2001 Laws like this are dependent on where you live. In my experience it is unlikely that a court would convict someone for defending themselves. SBN Doug Posted December 4, 2001 Posted December 4, 2001 Oh grrrreat. Now the jerk knows he needs to pull out that knife or gun he may have in order to beat you. :kaioken: Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
hanksohn Posted December 5, 2001 Posted December 5, 2001 I really hope that you don't live in the US. Because if you do that is a scary statement about cops and their understanding of the law. There is no statutory requirement for this. That means it's a question of what a lawyer can convince a jury is an appropriate use of self defense, and it seems unlikely that any jury would say,"2 warnings? I don't think that's enough" Of course, many cops also believe they have the right to search a vehicle following a speeding stop. So one might actually have said something this stupid. Sigh
