How to tell who is not a real martial artist( people on tv)

i was just wondering how you tell who uses stunt actors ect on tv, movies ect because how do you tell if they are really martial artist or just actors trying to be martial artists most of them seem to have little expercience like Keanu Reeves (sp?) and just make it look good

anyone who is worth having their name on the marquee uses stunt doubles.

 

Even Wesley Snipes who is a very serious and dangerous martial artist uses stunt doubles.

 

So has or does Chuck Norris, Jet Li, only a fwe that i can think of that do their own stunts are Jackie Chan, and... well thats actually about it.

 

Even Steven Segal who i a serious Aikido practioner uses stunt doubles.

Jackie Chan does his own stunts and tends to insist on those working on a movie with him also do their own stunts.

 

Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone else who doesn't use a stunt double.

Well I seem to be getting some confusion i mean people that dont do any style. I mean people that just do fancy kicks that are in movies even though the stunt double thing is good.

If you are interested in finding out, do some research(Phone calls, Letters, Article's). Then when you find out, you can share with us, maybe we'll all be suprised of who is, and who is not. As far as I know Jakie is the only one, but I would think even his employers would rather he didn't.

I've heard Jacke Chan described as "an insurance salesman's nightmare" because of his insistance on performing his own stunts.

 

To get back to the original question, it can be hard to tell who is a trained martial artist and who has never had any training prior to making a film.

 

As most stars use stunt doubles (even the MA trained ones), then camera angles, clever shots and goos use of technology make it look like it is the actual star who is kicking butt, rather than a stunt double.

 

Plus, even when a star does some stunts, the camera angles will tend to focus on what they can do rather than highlight the fact that a person may never have trained in MA.

 

Generally, most non-MA actors recieve some form of MA training prior to making an action film - the girls in Charlies Angels spring to mind, as does Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, so even those who haven't spent years learning a particular art will have had intense training prior to making the movie, so in one way they can't be described as 'non-martial artists' anyway.

i think tom cruise does his own stunts. he does in MI2 anyway. more actors these days are doing there own stunts, because as technology improves, so does the safety of said stunts

Tom Cruise most certainly did not do his own stunts.

 

He may do some of his easy stunts but he has several stunt doubles

actually, i read somewhere or other that although tom cruise didn't do all of his own stunts for M:I2, he insisted that he do as many as he could. that mountain scene in the beginning was all him.

from waht i gather,

 

jackie chan has no insurance.

 

and neither do the guys on his team.

 

if any of them get injured, it all comes out of his very deep pockets....
