Hudson
First off, at some point, every black belt was a white belt. I don't know how any of you can say you'd be rude to white belts when you're "tired". You have to understand that a black belt is a useless piece of cloth that keeps your uniform on in some schools, in my old TKD school I had trained with a 4th grader with a black belt. Also, you'll hear people talking about "Black belts are just the beginning of your martial art, not the end.". That is mainly true, except all non-black belts have no right to say it. You can't assume that someone who is lazy in class was lazy the whole way to that rank. You don't know what blood and sweat was poured into making it happen, wether they actually did or not. So never, ever criticize black belts when you don't rank. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.

Beiner
Both of them are in the wrong, the white belt should not have a disrespectfull attitude towards the higher belts, and the higher belts should not demean or dismis someone solely because their learning. battousai16
well, but it dosen't seem as though he was dismissing him because he's learning but rather because he's a disrespectful, newbie showboat. Drunken Monkey
....heh, trust you to be the one who gets what i mean...... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Hudson
I fully understand that, but I'm not quick to anger. I guess that may just be me. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
Drunken Monkey
it's not anger. it's not even frustration. (mildly annoying sometimes but that's a different story.....) it's more like how things need to be done sometimes. it's down to the fact that i've seen/witnessed this more than once. they come in, all talk, realise that it actually involves work then never turn up again. i think that if i have at least shown him/her what martial arts training is like (in my style) then at least i have done something good. i guess i could just be all nice and patient but then what purpose does that serve? maybe the kid will come back next week and give me attitude again? now if i work his butt off and he hates it and he hates/resents me for it but still comes back then i think i've done something worthwhile. what he/she feels about me doesn't matter, as long as they train seriously and i feel like i'm showing/teaching them something that they are absorbing. it's cheesey but sometimes, the only way to teach people is to make them want to beat you. at least then they have a drive of some sort. the problem with the situation as posed is that the kid already thinks he can beat the black belt. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." I don't know how any of you can say you'd be rude to white belts when you're "tired". Yes, but I know someone that received a BB without being a WB first You have to understand that a black belt is a useless piece of cloth that keeps your uniform on in some schools, in my old TKD school I had trained with a 4th grader with a black belt. Are you ttalking about a 4th grade BB or 4 grader-9 year old? Yeah right-a 9-year old BB. Also, you'll hear people talking about "Black belts are just the beginning of your martial art, not the end.". That is mainly true, except all non-black belts have no right to say it. Why? You can't assume that someone who is lazy in class was lazy the whole way to that rank. You don't know what blood and sweat was poured into making it happen, wether they actually did or not. So never, ever criticize black belts when you don't rank. A nonBB or lower level can criticize anyone who posts a attitude. Moreso, a BB should not post such a attitude. Beiner
Well I live under the personal mantra of respect is earned not given. At my dojo they got it the first day by the way they treated me with dignity as opposed to muttering things under there breath. Ive been there for 2 months now or something and Im still not apart of the inner circle, but slowly Im becomming more and more apart of the school, and I really enjoy it. But for a black to mutter stuff about someone is just rude, they are supposed to be teaching the lesser belts, not creating an uncomfertable enviroment. Not that being said Im not saying that lesser belts should start off being disrespectful. Everyone should be tacful and not try to degrade eachother, and a white belt should know his place in the class. But learning progreses at a quicker rate in a nuturing and supporting enviroment rather then a enviroment that is filled with negative influences.
