Eraser Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 I am 18 years old and fresh out of highschool. I am 5'11 and 155lbs. I have 7% body fat with a 49 inch chest and 29 inch waist. I have competed in 8 weightlifting competitions and placed top 4 or higher in every one. In my highschool days I was a varsity football player, track athlete (one year distance three years sprints), and wrestler. As you can see, I am the athletic type. Anyway...I have been training in Muay Thai for 4 or so weeks. I train with my trainer three days a week for two hours. I train by myself for two hours a day. I have defeated a friend of mine who is a black belt in karate and my first (i'm now trained by his trainer) trainer. My current teacher seems to think I can compete in 6 or so months and do very well. I am just curious as to what you individuals have to say about the situation. Should I compete in 6 months or wait? Even tho I have absolutely no thoughts or fear in my mind when I compete, I still have this doubt afterwards. Well..lol..what do you guys think? Thanks
Eraser Posted July 8, 2004 Author Posted July 8, 2004 I forgot to add that the tourney he wants me to compete is kickboxing, even though I'm training Muay Thai.
Luckykboxer Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 trust your instructor, unless he has a history of having his fighters hurt. most times he will enter you into a smoker fight first and you will be matched with someone with comparable experience. you will be fine
Fat Donkey Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 From what I understand from my master its a bit of a tradition to start fighting as soon as possible. They start the kids off right away in thailand, I mean Like a week after they join the camps. They want to see if the kids have spirit/heart before they invest years of instuction on them. I personally think it's a good idea because u will learn pretty quick if u want to stick with it or not. The only problem I see is getting disqualified for using MT techniques because low-kicks, knees, elbows and MT clinching are not usually allowed under kickboxing rules. Donkey
