bsutton1 Posted December 3, 2001 Posted December 3, 2001 I'm new here. I don't know kickboxing or any other martial art but been interested in learning for a while. Im 28 and live in Durham, NC. Would like to start off with kickboxing sometime? Does anyone know a good place in my area who could learn kickboxing? Also, how long did it take you guys to get your first black belt in kickboxing?
Kickbutt Posted December 5, 2001 Posted December 5, 2001 Hi bsutton...I'm sorry, but I'm in Vancouver, Canada...I did read your post however, but I live too far away! My suggestion would be for you to go out and to do some research - look up all of the clubs in your area and go in and talk to the instructors and the students. A good school would encourage this...a non-reputable school would feel threatened. The reason for doing this is first of all to find out if kickboxing is in fact for you...you should be able to receive a free introductory session and to be able to sit and watch a class to see exactly what goes on. The instructors should be very approachable and willing to answer all of your questions, otherwise you should head for the door. Find out as much as you can (ie. how often you would be training, how quickly you would be advancing in class, what kind of belt system they use, if any) and then just post what you've found out here and I'm sure we could all point you in the right direction. I also seem to remember Tommy 'Bee' Bottone mentioning just recently that he's familiar with alot of good schools in the States, so you may want to ask him as well....nothin' like advice from a Champion!!! Best of luck to you bsutton and no...we're not ignoring you!!! Lori If you think something small cannot make a difference - try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room.-Unknown-
