Luckykboxer Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 Ok so some basics... I am a heavyweight. I wear a size 6 in Karate Gis. I just ripped the leg out of another pair of gi pants, very frustrating. the size wasnt the problem, i just got part caught and when i kicked it ripped it in half. I am looking for the highest quality Gi i can find. I realized that I have used some fairly mid range gis my entire Kenpo career. Yet when i started Jiu Jitsu I bought the best Koral and Best Atama Gis i could find in size A-5 Anyways Are these the best gis or are there more that are similar, and or better?
Pacificshore Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 Depends on the amount of $$ you want to spend. Both are top quality uniforms, but I've read on some forums that the Tokaido isn't what it use to be, but then again I wouldn't know personally. That goes for the Shureido, many swear by it. Maybe think about the heaviest weigh out there. The heaviest gi I've used is a 14oz., but I know there are some that weigh as much as 16oz. I've used the Juka Dragon-Gold gi in a 14oz. was pretty durable and more reasonable in cost. Most my other uniforms are 12 ouncers, and have held up well enough. I have a custom ordered one from Satori gi, and it is nice because it provides extra room in the pants, as well as the armpits of the jacket. Oh, I do have a 14oz. Macho heavy, and that's nice, but I only use it as a formal type gi, testing and such, so it gets very little wear. Hope this is of some help Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
Luckykboxer Posted July 6, 2004 Author Posted July 6, 2004 ya tons thanks. umm i am interested in where you ordered custom pants? I have huge legs, and the problem i run into alot of times are the ones that fit my waist are a little tighter then i like in the thighs and the ones i like in the thighs make me feel like im swimming at the waise, plus i usually have to get about 4-8 inches of leg cut off.. and i dont have short legs either.... makes me wonder who they think have those measurements
aefibird Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 lol, practically every martial artist I know has to have some material taken off either the sleeves or legs of their gi's. The manufacturers must think we're all about 8 foot tall or something... I have a Tokaido 14oz karate gi. It cost me a lot more than any other gi I've ever bought, but it is very good quality and such a thick weight that I actually use it to train in Aikido in - it stands up well to doing rolls and grabs etc etc. I've heard poor reports about Tokaido lately, but my gi is great and I'd certainly buy another if it ever wears out, although I don't think it will. It seems pretty indestructable! "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!

Luckykboxer Posted July 8, 2004 Author Posted July 8, 2004 Thanks I am debating now on spending the extra money for a custom fitted Gi... pricy but i really like the idea of having it made custom for me..

Well it'll be $$ well spent in my opinion. I spent $130(US) on mine through Satori gi. If you go to the website, just print out the page where it ask for your measurements, get it filled out, and next thing you know, you'll be wearing a gi made to your specs Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
tommarker Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 Luckykboxer... my favorite karate pants are part of a judo uniform made by Fuji. They are mid-weight, and just baggy enough for me (I too have big legs and have a heck of a time finding pants that fit well.) They are only about $20-25 at http://www.hatashita.com/ (i hope the censorware lets that url thru...) I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
shotochem Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Ronin has a good sturdy 16oz gi. I like it. http://www.kinjisan.com/ Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
