hey peeps,

since I have never studied any martial arts I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I'll give this my best shot ;)

I have seen on various occasions people flip off the floor lying on their back, they launch themselves upright and land on their feet! Is there a name for this, it would make like a lot more simple! Is it hard to perform??

well thx

James

I have always heard it called a Kip, or a Kip up.

It isnt very hard once you have it, but it may be tricky to learn.

the best i can describe it as such..

bring you legs and knees up towards your chest

shoot your legs out away from your chest(the trick here is not to shoot with you rlegs.. but from you waist), while at the same time driving your hips up towards the ceiling.

Also at the same time bring your arms forward in front of you, as you arch your back.

I know thats not a very good explanation, but that get you started, once you have it its alot easier to do without all of those parts working together.

practice on a well padded area, and be careful not to flop yourself onto your own back.

I have generally called this a back flick. that is what they called it in breakdancing.

most people think you have to flick your body forward, but you actually want to get as much height as you can.

they way they taught it was to get you to flick up, then they would use a towel to grab you feet and they rip your body forward. felt quite weird actuall. i still cant do it tho, probably to fat.

We also call it kip,

But as confusing as it is, kip is dutch for chicken and i don't know if it's translated from chinees to dutch or actually is chinees or the general name of it in english :-?

like i said, confusing :D

man that ones easy its the capoeira type stuff that gets complicated. i tried stacking a bunch of pillows on my living room floor and i still couldnt grow the balls to try any flips. i mean there are basic easy ones like the one mentioned earlier or even the au batido but i really want to learn aerial cartwheels and butterfly twists. so hard though.

if you want to learn that type of stuff, find yourself a breakdancing school, they will teach you the same kind of thing, but in more detail.
