Dijita Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 Although this has been discussed quiet a bit, here is my opinion: Myself, I enjoy contact fighting more than semi-contact/light contact. I find that I learn faster under these rules, and I find I have more fun under these rules. Notice how I use the word "I" as this is what works for me, myself but not necessarily for others. Martial arts is such a personal journey. I strongly believe that it is up to the practitionor to decide what is best for themselves.
disgracian Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 totally, dijita. everyone has their own needs. i prefer the semi/light contact because after having brawled throughout most of my school years and a few post-school years, i'm tired of getting hit. i don't see how i'd learn any faster under heavier contact sparring: having somebody 'score a point' against me is just as effective for alerting me to a gap in my defense as having somebody crack one of my ribs or chip a tooth. indeed, the latter approach would probably impede my training at some point. that's my take on the issue. one ring to rule them all.
