GhostFighter Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 I think its the chin and its doesnt matter much under the chin (uppercut, probably better) or on the chin if u ask me. Anyone disagree with me and if so why? Everyday is a fight
Shorinryu Sensei Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 I guess where you hit someone depends on what effect you want to have on them. The chin's a good target, but in a bareknuckle streetfight, it's a good way to get your hand broken, and not a guaranteed knockout. It's hard to continue a fight if your own hand is broken. I tend to tell my students that the nose is a great place to hit someone first. Does it knock them out? No, not generally, but it has several benefits that I feel are important. I've used the nose several times as a target in a real fight, and it's worked very well for me. 1. It causes the eyes to water immediately, which will blind the individual for a few precious seconds, allowing you time and opportunity to run, or to followup with any number of other strikes to put your opponent on his(her?) butt. 2. Hitting the nose has good "shock effect" on an individual. Most people don't like the taste of their own blood, and the nose is so sensative, that it hurts like hell when struck hard. Now, before somebody chimes in and says "But can't you kill somebody by hitting the nost hard and sending splinters of bone into the brain?"...the answer is...no, you can't. Not unless your punch or kick has the power of a jackhammer on a stationary target. Maybe we should start a thread just on that myth? My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
muaythaifreak Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 It also depends very much upon what the attacker is doing. If someone is charging me, my favorite thing to do is a foot jab or a long knee to the solar plexus. I don't care how big you are, it's going to take your wind. If he's just standing in front of me, I like a nice hard leg kick to the inside of the thigh followed with a nice elbow to the face. If that doesn't take the fight out of them I'll clinch and wear his ribs out with some knees. Most people don't expect that and it is very hard to fight with a flailed rib. I generally don't ascribe to the one hit one kill theory. I'll keep striking until the guy is down or I'm too tired to lift my knee. granmasterchen Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 if i want to end the fight quickly....the best spot and easiest, in my opinion, to hurt someone is the neck. no matter where you hit them on the neck the fight will most likely be over. a nice chop to the throat or back of the neck, or even the sides of the neck....pretty short and sweet. ---THERE are many vital points however, it all depends on what technique you are using. and the attack depends on the level of threat as well. if it is a life or death fight and you want it over quick, i would suggest the neck, groin, solarplexus, kneecaps, back of the neck and spine, eye gouges, temples, boxing the ears, spearhands to the arm pit and so on....all depends on how violent you want to be ...whether you want the attacker dead or only hurt That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger

ramymensa Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 I wouldn't go with the one srike philosophy either. It's important to be in fighting action until you see it end. Nice ideas here. Maybe we'll get even more. World Shotokan Karate

Ravencroft Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Yeah the knees are always a good choice especially if you can get ur whole body into it. but about striking the nose i thought if u palm heeled straight up into it (make ur hand go the same direction as the nostrils) hard enough it was a kill strike...maybe not thats just what i heard i havent actually tested it...yet.
Shorinryu Sensei Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 but about striking the nose i thought if u palm heeled straight up into it (make ur hand go the same direction as the nostrils) hard enough it was a kill strike...maybe not thats just what i heard i havent actually tested it...yet. I've had this discussion with several medical doctors and a couple of chiropractors (they know the bones system better) on this subject, and every one of them saysthe same thing. it would work ONLY if the head was solidly locked down, as to be totally imobile, and then only if the object striking the nose penetrated very far into the nasal cavity. approximately 3-4" on an adult I guess. if you look at a skull, you will see that there is no direct passageway from the nasal cavity to the brain cavity. It is doubtful that the human hand is capable of generating enough power to do that sort of damage, assuming of course the head is immobile and doesn't nap back with the force of the blow. The foot...possibly, but again, the head would have to be immobile. Hollywood loves to do that technique in the movies, but it's just not possible unless the situation is just right. Ravencroft Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 ok then thats just a rumor ive heard so i didnt know exactly how that worked. but are there any one hit kill strikes and if so what are they. and no one say shoot someone because that doesnt count.
