ShadowGoomba
Living in Beaverton Oregon, I have a limited selection of non-TKD schools. I have experienced what TKD is like I do not plan on ever doing TKD again. I had hoped to find a Wing Chung School, but there were none that I could find around where I live. There was however, a Kung fu school that taught a style that I have never heard of. I went to the site and it looked somewhat extravigant. It claims to be " Sheng hun" Kung Fu. The site is https://www.fareastfightingarts.com. Anyone else suspisious? Or is this legit? Edited June 27, 2004 by Shadow~Goomba 1-up!
White Warlock
The site is incomplete and doesn't provide enough information to validate or invalidate its claims. Otherwise, it's a pretty website. ShadowGoomba
hmmmm....I'll have to Visit. I have never heard of his style before. Does anyone else know of this style? Also, I found another Dojo called Dacascos Kung Fu Academy. Has anyone heard good/bad things about this? 1-up!
Ali
The site is https://www.fareastfightingarts.com. Anyone else suspisious? Or is this legit? Very Suspicious. From the website: >>The seven animals chosen by Da Mo, the bear, mantis, crane, cobra, >>tiger, mongoose and dragon were animals with practical and effective >>fighting movements. Being a Chinese, uneven we are not quite sure about Da Mo, but the major thing he taught is something like Qi Gong only. So called animals style for Shaolin are Dragon, Snake, Tiger, Leopard, Crane. Wrong history 1. Da Mo has gone to China in 4 A.D. or 5 A.D. not B.C. 2. Wu Tang is never a name for Buddist style of martial art but rather where Taoists have their own way of fighting style. 3. Shaolin temple is never triad society until 17 century when Qing Dynasty, ruling by Manzhou race, overthrown Ming Dynasty, ruling by Hans race. >>History has it that Da Mo, the Bodhisattva warrior, arrived in China >>from India in 217 B.C. and brought with him advanced forms of animal >>fighting styles of martial arts that originated from the eighteen animals >>of the ancient yogas. Not only is this mentioned in Buddhist records but >>is also depicted on the stone carvings and rubbings from the >>tombstones of the ancient fighting monks. To some it is called the "lost >>art" or the "unknown art," but to the highly trained triads of the Wu >>Tang it was known as "shenghun," which means "animal spirit." Drunken Monkey
just looked at the website and yeah, a lot of what they present is inaccurate... for a start, da-mo is NEVER refered to as 'sifu' and a lot of their use of terms is wrong. also, 'sheng hun' (or should it be 'shun gung') is not 'animal spirit'. it is/was about the summoning of spirits which then (kinda) 'possess' you, giving you mystic fighting abilities of the spirit. should point out that this has always been viewed as, well, for lack of a better term, 'bunk' by the majority of the 'proper' martial artists of the time (around the ching dynasty). so if this school does indeed teach you 'shun gung' then it is real and legit. unfortunately, what it teaches isn't... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." No Name Student
Far East Fighting Arts does still exist on Main Street in Tigard. The Dacascos Kung Fu Academy, however, is no longer in existence in Portland.
