XxpengwynxX Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 Not quiet sure how I would spell this... But here's a try. The only way I could think to spell it "hight". You can't really hear the "t" on the end, but it doesn't sound like the word "high". Yea...I'm sitting in my living room yelling, trying to figure out how to spell it,...my little brother thinks I'm crazy now...
Red Triangle student Posted July 14, 2004 Author Posted July 14, 2004 LOL! "To be elated at success, and dissappointed at defeat, is to be the child of Circumstances." I wish I followed that rule! ^^ I hate Losing!
luke_f34 Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 mine is a really loud, low hhhaaaaaaa! a lot of people in my dojo dont kaia very often or very loud God grant me the sirenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.Yellow Belt
June1 Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 My kiai sounds like "Kiai," but without the "i." Kind of like, "KYA!" I think it would be interesting to experiment with different kiais, but am a little worried it would be weird to have a different kiai like, every class. Kool Kiais: ICE! DIE! KITES! DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH! KIAI!"Know Thyself""Circumstances make me who I am."
47MartialMan Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Mine doesnt not even sound like that. it sound like a loud cry/grunt. The loudest that I have done it was felt by some students present. It was my loudest, that immediately afterwards, I had to go to the latrine
Karate-addict Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Mine is like SOO, short, sharp and loud. I used to do DAA but that one didn't come from the abdomen it came from the throat, so I replaced it. hara wo neru
AngelaG Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Mine changes depending on the technique I am doing. So kick kiai sounds different from punch kiai. And then it'll change depending on what sort of mood I am in (focused, happy, angry etc) and how tired I am. When I am really going for it and kicking a person it does tend to sound like, "DIE!", which my instructor always says isn't very nice! mattys Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Hmm really depends. Kata-wise, when I do a really loud kiai (pretty much at the climax) I'll do a loud "EHHSOOOOOH!" but on the more minor techniques it's different. When I'm punching I'll make a "tsu" sound, and when kicking I'll make a slightly louder "HAI." Kind of follows through a kind of Ninjutsu style, with a different kiai for each strike.
username9 Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 I have thought about Kiai-noises before and how funny they can be. The funniest I ever heard was a kid who literally sounded like a goose honking! I have also taught kids who just shout the word "Kiai"! My Kiaia now adays is kind of like a "ee-yaah!" But it can vary lots. It sometimes sounds a bit like I am doing a very quick evil laugh type thing like "Aah-Hahyha!" Kind of thing - It is so funny reading how people try to spell it - same with mine really! But basically - however I do it and however it sounds - I always make sure it is loud!
Karategurl Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Well my kiai sounds more like OOOss! What we do in my dojo, is we have to blowout a candle with our kiai. Which is really cool, i thought. I always get complimented on how loud my kiai is.... it just comes from the gut. I love doing kiais!! Hurt rather than injure,Injure rather than maim,Maim rather than kill, kill rather than be killed...
