Oss Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 In summary, it is involved on what u are doing (kicks or punches, etc.) then where u are more comfortable with.. my sensei uses lots of kiai but I often hear him use kiai, he uses DAI! HAT! and more. It is also can be on what right time you should use it to make your force stronger.. Think of your hands and feets as a sword, just don't apply it on foods.
Jay Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 mine kina huuuuuuui althought when i was litlle i did try funny works once like beans on toast or bunjee jump The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.

trustkid1 Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 I use to scream along kiai but my sensei told me to short it. He also said to me that when you kiai you have to leave your punch out and when you finish kiai you have to go back to kumite stance. Don't know why.
Rateh Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 the other day i was in the lobby, marking the attendance for the classes that daythe intermediate/advanced kids class was practicing katathe girl in front, a red belt, was right on the edge of the mat, and she kiahedeven though i KNEW they were practicing kata, it still scared me half to death Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start. - Nido Qubein
Hidden_Ronin Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 I personally hate my Kiai. Its a deep HEER! , but I guess if its what comes natural then its okay. Is it actually possible to Kiai wrong? "Greet your friends with open arms, and your enemies with open hands"
Menjo Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Is it actually possible to Kiai wrong?Depending on the style slightly, but 99percent...yes, you can Kiai in a way where it would hinder your training in a certain aspect. "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst"William Penn
Protagonist Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 My kiai is more like a soft "High!" sound. My kiai(s) are really quiet, since I'm very soft-spoken, so no one really hears them except myself. It's pathetic really. -Protagonist

Don't know why. This is for point sparring in tournaments..to emphasize your strike so it's more visible but in real life it's pointless to do so. It's also pointless to do so in more full contact matches. flowing like the chi energy inside your body b =rZa=
