A letter to a student about to quit training

I have studied for fifteen years, and I was stubborn. The first five years were trying, but I eventually learned that my master was not breaking me, he was molding me.

It is the exact opposite of the typical "go go go" of American culture, the "work harder, expect more, achieve your goals now!" mentality. It is the release, the surrendering not to another person, but to ourselves. Once we learn that we are capable of so much more than our fragile egos allow us to be, it opens doors to avenues we never could have dreamed were possible.
