Don't feel bad Jen, I haven't done it yet either and I've been here longer :uhoh: Anyways, here goes... My name is Lori and I live in North Vancouver, Canada. I'm 31 yrs old (30's ROCK!) and am married with a 5 yr. old daughter. My daughter and I both started training at Champions Academy 2 years ago. I have been hooked ever since! My daughter, on the other hand loves the school and the instructors, but is going through a "I don't want to go - it's too hard" phase...I'm trying to keep her interested and am working with her instructors, as I really think it would be a shame for her to quit!! However I won't force her to go as I don't want her to hate it in the end - hey Jen, maybe you could enlighten me, as you started so young -? Anyways - my favorite thing to do in class or on Saturdays is to spar (can't get enough of it haha!!) and I'm now an assistant instructor, which gives me great pleasure! Sorry this took me soooooo long to write guys!! Ouss.

Hi Lori,

I was just a curious kid. That's why I stuck with it. Initially my dad didn't tell me what I would be learning. Just that he wanted to teach me something but I had to prove myself first. I spent three years learning basic anatomy and how to stretch and lift weights before I had any mat work. I didn't even know that he knew Kung Fu until my first lesson. I really don't know what to tell you about your daughter. If she's a lazy kid, maybe she needs a little push. If not, she just may need a break.

That's not very helpful, but I can't think of anything else.

I thought so once, but now I know it.

YO!

I saw the America Ninja movies when i was about 5 or 6 then i saw my brother doing some karate kicks out back, so he taught me a few things and i've been hooked.. i was about your daughter's age, Lori... Don't worry of she is going thru that phase, cos, like was said, you don't want her hating it in the end.

The MA's aren't for everyone, but maybe if she sees you doing kicks and training and all that then she'd want to join in - like i did with my brother.

Yeah, I guess you're right - and it's true what you said about Martial Arts not being for everyone. She does see me doing all kinds of stuff, as I take her with me on Saturdays when I spar and she sometimes spars with me (she's sooooo cute with all her gear on!). I'm right upstairs as an assistant instructor when she's in her class, so she can see me there too. I keep reminding her that if she decides to stop, that it means she won't be coming with me anymore to spar and that she can't participate - she doesn't like that very much - and not having Sensei Blake as her instructor anymore, well that's just unthinkable!! As far as her being a lazy kid, no she's quite the opposite - on the go all the time. Come to think of it Angus, your comment about watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and having that inspire you does make sense - I rented Girlfight and she was REALLY getting into it after seeing a bit of the movie with me - doing kicks and punches and stuff, so I think I'll rent some cool martial arts type videos for her! Seems to motivate her alot! Thanks Mate !!

P.S. So uh...did ya find yer picture yet Angus??? I'm trying to find one too - maybe I'll just take one with our webcam in my uniform or something, I'll let you know. :dodgy:

Gives me an idea... I would be happy to host a gallery of member pictures if you'd like... or you could just use IMG tag in a post... just an idea. Member image gallery might be better loading time wise, but it really does not matter.

Not have Sensei Blake as a teacher. Oh no!!! I saw one of his fights. Not bad.

glad to see your intro lori (kickbutt)...as for your daughter, give her time she'll come around....like mother like daughter....if you stick with it, she will become interested in time.

Hey karateka, Blake is fighting on the 6th of July at the Agridome if you'd like to see it live - Champions is selling tickets. Just a thought...
