Jazzstorm
The Grandmaster is coming to my area for a seminar, and I am so excited! Can anyone tell me what to expect from this? It's a two-day seminar,5-9pm. I'd love to hear your experiences. SBN Doug
You might want to double-check the schedule. Usually when he stops for 2 days, it's to have the Black Belt testing on one, and the seminar on the next. Or, if there are a lot of students attending, to break them up into 2 groups. You can expect a long lecture, so prepare yourself for a long kneel or sit when it starts. Some people bring notebooks their first time to copy the diagrams he draws. It's hard to tell what he'll cover, because he changes the focus every year. It really depends on what he feels needs more focus in the coming year, based on the students he's observed. It looks like the schedule has him going through MO, IL, and MI before NY, so maybe they can give us a heads up after he's left. Sometimes he brings out the short sticks, and works on those, or just the 4 directional blocking. He sometimes breaks down forms into their individual moves, and explains them as you move through them. He never ceases to amaze me though. He only sees me once a year since I moved up here. And he remembers I used to be with (and will be again soon) Master Harmon, and that I live in CT, not NY where I go to see him. It will be well worth it no matter what he covers. swooshfinn
You'll have a heads up from Sunday's stop in Knoxville, Illinois, as soon as I get back home and type it up. Its too bad I couldn't get a job earlier so that I can actually participate this year. Have an interview Monday afternoon (WISH ME LUCK)! I remember two years ago, I made a KFC run for the masters, and that the seminar covered ki breathing, short staff, and mid staff. SBN Doug
We look forward to it. But, how are you going to write it up if you're not participating? Anyway, good luck on Monday. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
DLopez
I'm looking forward to attending one of Kuk Sa Nim's seminars in Houston. Just have to wait a month... I looked at the schedule, and didn't realize he was starting off his seminar tour in San Antonio, at KSN Braun's school. I probably would have made the trip over there to get one in early! I got the pleasure of training there a couple a nights last year just before the World KSW Championships Touney, and got to meet KSN Braun. She was very hospitable and welcomed me to stop by for some training any time I'm in San Antonio in the future. DeanDahn Boh Nim - Black-Brown BeltKuk Sool Won"Dream as if you'll live forever. delta1
If you are like me, you'll be doing good to retain 1/4 of what you learn there. Ask if he'll allow vou to videotape the seminar. Well worth the trouble if he says yes. It is also posiible that someone else is videotaping, and you can corroborate to get different views of the seminar and copy tapes. Any way, sounds like fun! Enjoy, and let us know how it goes. Also, feel free to post any 'secrets'! Freedom isn't free!
swooshfinn
Knoxville, Illinois' seminar is complete, Kuk Sa Nym and the masters are heading over to Galesburg as I am typing this. Seminar run down is this: Break down by rank and working on forms and techniques. (Most of it was Ki Cho Hyung and Ki Bohn Soo, but I did notice that the red belts were working on Goh Guep Hyung, could have been the Puh Sah Bym Nym leading the red belts) Then with the aid of a Korean Buhddist monk, you work on meditation. After the meditation, the monk will create some impressive artwork with traditional painting techiniques. Each school will have a "lottery", with two winners, the winners will get one of the paintings. No weapons training this year. I purposely didn't post a lot of information because I wasn't able to get all the instruction on some of these topics as a spectator, but it was interesting nonetheless to make an effort to show up to seminar and give some moral support to the black belt candidates and the black belt promotion candidates. And if anyone is ever in West-Central Illinois or Eastern Iowa, please check out the Knoxville, IL; Peoria, IL; Clinton, IA; and the Dewitt, IA studios. Or if you are in the Saint Louis area, stop by the Saint Louis school located in Saint Charles, MO Kuk Sool Won Jae JahJah Ddi (Brown Belt)
SBN Doug
Hey, thanks for the info. He'll be over here on July 9th (a Friday ). I'll make it to the seminar, but I'm trying to decide if I should take a day of vacation to make it to the 1:00pm testing, or just wait until I get back to Houston.
