Mart
With all the will in the world if your system doesnt teach this and train like this then you havent got the opportunity to be that good when it comes to the real thing. Fat Donkey
:DWell as usual I agree with Mart. After taking five other MA's and then going to MT it was incredible. Everything made sense instantly and then I got in the ring and hit as hard as i could and got hit back. Every flaw in my technique, my attitude and conditioning becomes so clear (after regaining conciousness). I began to learn what styles and techniques suited me best and this was a daily and weekly thing not the 3 month competetion. I lived Muy Thai even eating every evening meal with my master and hearing the history of it. MT u complete me . Now my gym is closed and my Master has moved I know exactly what to look for in my next MA. FULL CONTACT. ALL THE TIME. I never have to wonder how I will perform in a real fight, I WILL ATTACK and let the dice roll. All my previous street fights I now see as lucky escapes before I did MT. For u TMA's out there I suggest u give it a shot. I still love my TMA's but full contact answered alot of questions I had about myself and if I could really perform and take the pain. Mart
That was for me the best post i have read on the entire forum because i can completey connect and identify with it. Full Contact teaches you so much, if you want to learn to really fight and defend yourself you wont stand a chance against someone that does full contact. There are so many things to learn from it i would say you could almost call it an art i itself. Seize the day!
shotochem
Good article. The best advice I've ever gotten in MA...... Don't overestimate yourself or underestimate your opponent. Appearances can be decieving, and often are. Never block with your face. If you can not block quick enough you will get hit, make sure you can take it. Always consider the consequences of your actions. The only mulligans in life are on the golf course. and my favorite... A belt only covers 2" of your A$$, the rest is up to you. Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
muaythaifreak
I'm gonna have to agree...always to a point though... if two people are involved in combat with one another, the guy with the "killer instinct" so to speak is probably going to have the upper hand even if the other is quite skilled with technique and form. There is just a drive that the "KI" gives that is hard to overcome unless you yourself have it. On the same token, most people who are willing to fight or are going to start a fight with you probably have that "KI". I know that "KI" is kinda cliche' but I don't know another way to describe it. Pain is temporary, glory is forever, and chicks dig scars!-=pain is weakness leaving the body=-If there's lead in the air, there is hope in the heart! Treebranch
I'm looking for a place where I can full contact spar with people of other styles, but I can't find any. We do some full contact in class, but I want to fight people that do an MA different than mine. I think it's important to realize that the training is the factor that makes most MA's work or not work and not the MA itself. Red J
Don't overestimate yourself or underestimate your opponent. This is what I got out of the article along with some other points that you guys mentioned. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
Fat Donkey
Hey Muy Thai freak could u clarify the KI a bit more. Is it aggressive ness or the focus of going after your opponent? If it's aggressiveness then i gotta disagree. One the things the full contact guys know pretty well is the ability to stay calm and cool under pressure. U know let the other guy flail away for a while, getting tired and then going in for the kill. If its focus(stubborness) then I agree. One minded dedication of taking the opponent out no matter how hard u get hit. Or is it a combination of both? Donkey
