Considering all this, as annoying and juvenile as comparative discussions may seem to be, they do serve a purpose, in that of providing an opportunity to discuss the strengths and weaknesses 'inherent' in various systems, irregardless of training regimen or instruction, with those who 'do' have expertise in said systems.

Very good point, I will view these "juvenile" discussions in a new light, thank you :karate:

Not yet, hehe...

Actually, it is for this very same reason that no system can be perfect for everyone. Systems vary, as is the individual's approach to studying them. What one gains from their studies will vary dramatically. But obtaining insight into various systems, via comparative analysis, can help one to find a system (or systems) that agree with their body mechanics and mindset.

White Warlock, thanks for your comments all very interesting and taken on board.

Telsun, you dont seem like a very nice person, but hey i guess we have to suffer people like you, perhaps you just feel inferior.

I think some of you are taking the cloning thing the wrong way. I know clones dont exist. Im tryin to say that its very difficult to compare a larger opponent vs a smaller opponent because the question becomes unanswerable. You could endlessly pick different people of different sizes and say yeah but this guy would beat that one.

Does this therefore mean that size does not matter? NO

So how can we answer the question?

Well look at yourself, if you became 5 inches shorter or taller, try to think of the differences that would have to your fighting ability, perhaps you feel your height is best as it is.

Do you see what im getting at? You have to relate, as far as possible , these questions to yourself.

All very well to say the shorter guy would win. But how would your sparring be affected if you became 5 inches shorter?

Just a friendly reminder to everyone to please be civil. And to watch your language. And if you disagree with someone find a respectful way to say it and better yet an understanable explanation of why you disagree.

Sheesh, if I was 5 inches shorter I'd disappear! lol. I'm only 5'2". Hmm, I suppose I could forget about attacking people in the head and just bite their ankles instead... :D

However, I don't really know how I'd be in a fight if I was shorter or taller. There are so many other factors in a fight that it would be difficult to say. Even if I was fighting an exact clone of myself it would be hard to say conclusively who would win - even more so if I was fighting a clone that was taller. 'Tall' me would have a better advantage with things like kicking, but 'regular' me would probably be able to slip under my tall self's guard. I suppose it would just depend on who was having the better day.

Hehe, I like that Aefibird. :D

Well yes, I completely understand. But one thing this topic reminded me of was when my trainer was getting me to throw my punches a bit lower and I pointed out that in most situations (although not necessarily in the ring) my opponent's going to be taller than me. He responded that I should always imagine my opponent to be me because I am the best person I am going to fight.

Does everybody understand what I mean by this? I'm not sure I can explain it that well but I should point out that Mark's very fond of mind games.
