TheDevilAside Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 I just finished watching Bloodsport for the second time again. Personally, I can't stand that movie, but I wanted to see what that movie would look like to me after being introduced to the actual world of martial arts.. I couldn't recognize much, except for the Muay Thai fighters. Aaaanyway.. at the end, it says this Frank W. Dux guy is actually real and holds several world records in the.. what's it called.. International Kumite Fighting Championship or something like that. Is this a joke? What kind of association (one called the IFAA, apparently in this movie) sponsors a tournament where people are deliberately killed? I mean, I'm sure there's underground fights where people get killed (like bumfights.com or something) but I always imagined it to be more of a Fight Club sort of thing. Anyway, I looked up on this Dux guy and the martial art he created and Ninjitsu Dux-Ryu can only be learned in Washington and.. haha.. get this.. a California college campus. And his website is kind of.. out there, he sounds like he has a superiority complex worse than that Chong Li guy did. So, what's the deal here? TheDevilAside Posted May 26, 2004 Author Posted May 26, 2004 Aaaaww crap, he has Ed Parker on his "Mentor's list". "If you're going through hell, keep going." - Sir Winston Churchill
Shorinryu Sensei Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 As I understand it, Dux has been pretty much discredited by the martial arts community because he's never been able to prove his claims with solid proof and evidence. I know there's websites out there that deal with this man in detail, but off the top of my noggin', I don't have any address's for them. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
delta1 Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Aaaaww crap, he has Ed Parker on his "Mentor's list". Now, there's a cool mental immage- SGM Parker as a Ninja! Look out, Stephen Hayes! Any idiot can list Mr. Parkers name on his credits, and many have tried- and been discredited. This sounds like another ( ! ) from that group. Just out of curiosity, which CA campus can you learn this on? UC Berkely- it's listed under the Humanities, right? Freedom isn't free!
Treebranch Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 The guy is a fraud. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
G Money Slick Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 They used his Kumite stories for a Movie Plot because it would be a big money maker. Jean-Claude himself doesn't know much about karate other than the basic strikes which he doesn't bother to use in the movie. Did you see his initial scene where he was working out on the speedbag doing those ballet kicks? I knew right there this movie would be hilarious. If your enemy refuses to be humbled......you must destroy him.
TangSooGuy Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Frank Dux is probably one of the biggest frauds in the martial arts community, who has never been able to back up any of claims. Bllodsport is a good enough movie for what it was- completely mindless with some decent fight scenes thrown in...but don't take it is being remotely historicallly or bigraphically accurate.

Zorba Posted August 5, 2004 Posted August 5, 2004 i like bloodsports. i like it a lot. I dont like when people say they dont like a movie cos it was unrealistic. How many movies do you konw that are? and im not just talking MA, im talking all movies. Movies are fictional, and meant to be entertainment. they arent meant to be absolutely true to life. It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong, and I am NOT a big man.Tae Kwon Do (ITF) - 1st Dan Black BeltShotokan Karate - 6th Kyu
Drunken Monkey Posted August 5, 2004 Posted August 5, 2004 leaving las vegas was pretty realistic.... how about requiem for a dream? ok, they're also very grim films but the portrayal was horribly real, wasn't it? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
