cathal Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 I'm looking for a diagram/video of both Bo kata Tenryu No Kon, and Gekkisai. If anyone has them or knows where I can go to get them I'd really appreciate it. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
Ronnryu Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Im not sure what gekisai kata you are talking about the gekisai kata I know is a empty hand kata I suppose you could do it iwht sai or tonfa. I have an mpeg of tenryu no kun and could email it to you if you want. Ron DavisSandan (Motobu ha Shito ryu)
cathal Posted May 26, 2004 Author Posted May 26, 2004 Gekkisai, as I'm told in Shotokan, is a bo kata. I'm not sure about other styles. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
Ronnryu Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 (edited) I havent heard of that one being a bo kata. It is the first kata that you start with in Goju ryu. Edited May 27, 2004 by Ronnryu Ron DavisSandan (Motobu ha Shito ryu)
Jade Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 A Shotokan kata with bo i believe it's Bassai Sho... btw....here you can find the best Shotokan katas videos performed by Hirokazu Kanazawa!...http://www.shotojukukai.com/kata/kata.htm "With a bit of imagination, kata can be deadly." - Hidy Ochiai
renketsu Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 Here is a step-by-step pictorial guide to doing Jutte with a bo. Its not my work and I dont claim to be able to do this convincingly (yet), but its good fun trying! The author (Elmar T Schmeisser) puts a plausible set of moves together to run through the kata completely and he could well have found the main reason that Jutte exists (to practise bo moves without attracting attention to the fact!). cathal Posted May 27, 2004 Author Posted May 27, 2004 Jade, Renketsu, you're help has been great. Thank you very much. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
G95champ Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 Shotokan uses NO weapons. Thats one of its main ideas. However several of our kata as pointed out like Bassai Sho, Jittie, and others can have weapons applyed to them but no major Shotokan org. does weapon training to my knowledge... With that said I have played with a Bo some. Im no expert but you can apply basic bo strikes to any of the Heian kata pretty easily. Same hold basically ture for the advanced kata but you have to work with them some. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Killer Miller Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 Thanks for stating that G59. I was going to write that as well, but didn't have time. - Killer - Mizu No KokoroShodan - Nishiyama SenseiTable Tennis: http://www.jmblades.com/Auto Weblog: http://appliedauto.mypunbb.com/Auto Forum: http://appauto.wordpress.com/
cathal Posted May 29, 2004 Author Posted May 29, 2004 Yes I'm aware Shotokan is a strict empty hand style but I also know about many who also wish to practice weapons to help balance their training. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
