Jujitsu is more for competition than street wise fighting.

I'd recommend Kickboxing or Karate for self defense but man you wanna talk about a workout. Jujitsu is great for keeping strong on the wrestling mat.

If your enemy refuses to be humbled......you must destroy him.

So TJJ is for competition? Not that I've ever experienced.

I highly recommend you take Judo. Judo has throws, locks, and ground work which can be used effectivly on the street. Some Judo schools will teach you how to handle certain situations when a weapon is pulled on you.

Judo's strongest aspect is the throws, which can often end a fight on the street.

So if I was to take ju-jitsu maybe only a couple of hours every saturday (my work schedule will only allow this much time) will I learn how to do not only grappling techniques and throws, but kicks and punches as well?

couldnt say for TJJ, but a good BJJ school will teach you to fight on the street, and even take boxers and the likes if youre good enough.

A couple hours a week isn't enough time to train in everything.
